A while back I made a wrong turn in my cement truck and found a bunch of BL in the driveway of the place where I had to turn around. I thought I knew who owned the place but now I’m not so sure I’ll have to do some investigating. There was a bunch of dead ones right along the road that would be easy access probably be about 30 miles one way, but if’n I can figure out for sure who the owner is and get permission. I’ll go get it.

Drove 60 miles one way a couple of times. It was for a couple 16ft trailer loads of Hedge. I seldom get good access to it. Most farmers with cattle around here like it, their cows tend to lay under it in the hot summer months.

I'd go get it. Make a trip doing something else that way to make yourself feel better about going that way.

I drive 100 miles one way for a load of lodge pole pine, and it is still way cheaper than propane.
I drive 30 miles to town just for groceries.

I suppose I might go 10 miles for a large load of something premium for free...BL, or hickory for sure.
That said, I did go about 30 miles to a coworkers house for a very large load of ash one time...it was partially a favor, and he helped load...oh, and it was probably 2 cords hauled home...I had sideboards on the truck, stacked it tightly, and the dump trailer was pretty full too...heavy load! :stack::stacker:

Unless I'm doing a favor for someone I'm not driving more than 15 or 20 minutes.

I've driven 90 minutes to a state forest where I enjoy cutting in the peace and quiet. I only take the primo straight trunks, leave all the brush where it falls, and take my dog for a good hike in the woods once I'm finished. But I'm not really going for the wood, I'm going to spend a nice day in the woods.

To just throw in my usual. I often drive 15-25 miles which takes me 20-30 mins one way for wood. Sometimes a truck or trailer load at the time sometimes a trailer and truck full . Just depends. Not living on my property I am getting wood from people that give it to me or off public land.

Farthest for locust was 220 miles. My dad brought a 16' trailer loaded with locust and a truck bed of hedge down when my family bought our farm house. 1 ton truck will haul a lot of firewood.

Normally not more than 30 miles. But if I'm helping a friend out I'll drive farther .

It costs 20 bucks for fast food for 2 and that is come and gone in a day. That locust will last much longer. Go get it.

I agree with Locust Post. What's $20.00 compared to the costs of other stuff. Plus look at the savings of HHO, natural gas, or electric heat. Go get it. It's not like you're going for some punky pine. It's primo firewood and worth it IMO. But I'm also a member of the BL mania club. And damm proud of it!!:dex:

Some of you are truly fortunate to have such a great variety and accessibility to quantities of good hardwood. This afternoon I lined up a massive dead elm score that is right at 30 miles away.
Haven’t figured out the best/most efficient way to go about it yet. But I’m excited and definitely looking forward to hitting it a couple times. (at least)
I need a wood cutting buddy, there’s plenty enough to share.

I'm driving about 3 miles North and can pick up all the Black Gold I want, and it is ready to burn.

I know where BRAD has his stash. :rofl:

He even shows up on google earth with folding ruler in hand.
Must have been calculating how many cords are there?

Yep. We just put a geo locator in your truck. Simple.
