How many of you have a distance, time or gas limit on a truckload (6 1/2 ft) of wood? I am thinking about going for some black locust 23 miles, 38 minutes one way. That would also be 4 gallons of gas a load. It almost seems worth 20 bucks a load since free wood within 10 miles has been scarce this year. What are your limits? 3 hours per load, including travel and loading, 25 miles and 20 bucks in gas is probably my limit, and it has to be good stuff. Screenshot_20221206-231421_Maps.jpg

For CL scores I limit my travel to about 20 miles one way if it's a good one. I'm more likely to skip it based on what I think I might be getting into such as access, wood quality, and the general vibe I get from the ad.

Farthest I've actually gone out of my way for is about 30 miles one way. I did this 2 years ago for a load of apple I could drive right into the orchard for, cut and load. Last month I did about the same for a couple loads of chestnut oak (white oak family) and rare scrounge for me, so it was worth the extra fuel in my book. I suppose if I ran out of black locust and the mania was upon me, I'd go 23 miles for it ;)

22 miles in 38 minutes? Buy a new GPS with a more competitive attitude LOL. Mine begins every instruction with “I bet you can’t” and ends every instruction with “When you think you're up to it”.

I've driven an hour for a BL score. Mostly just to meet up with a fellow hoarder and because it’s fun.

I would say about :45 to an hour is pushing it for me. If I were desperate for wood, maybe more. Another factor in my determination is the amount of wood available. If it was a huge honey hole, I'd consider more distance and the possibility of getting a larger trailer.

edit: If it were just one truck load, probably 30 minutes tops.

38 minutes 22 miles , you better start driving.
BRAD would drive 3800 miles for it.

Not sure if I would jump on it or not.

10-15 minutes at the most and only if I have other business in that general direction.

I would drive that far for it, but then again look who you're asking! :loco:  Ive driven 35 minutes to cut BL with Sirchopsalot last March. Kinda half way for the two of us. I went back later for the rest as i was sort of in the area.

Seriously if scores are scarce in your area and you "need" wood go for it. Neatly stack the bed and bring a moving blanket or two as you can put some in the cab. A hoarding adventure every now and then is fun. Of course for me every score even next door is an adventure!

If it is a normal heaping load then id go for it, but less than that probably not, unless in in the area.

Dont make me come down there! :saw: :tree:

1/4 mile max . I have free range on 250 acres of forest without ever hitting the public roads.

I have driven to the NE corner of CT 1.5 hrs to cut wood for a friend. In return i got a PU full of wood.
Some recent scores were over 20 minutes, but i was desperate.

20 miles max now days. I'm actually driving 15 miles tomorrow to check out a FB add. Oak and Hickory it says, posted 2 weeks ago so the easy stuff may be gone.

Right now I am itching to do some cutting.
Not sure how far I would travel to get my fix.
Been looking close to home but might be time to broaden my search.

I stopped at that Sackett Point access road last month and that oak is still untouched. Probably couple loads of BL scattered about across the way that ill be getting eventually. i dont have any bigger "normal wood" scores on my radar where we both can get a load or two.

    Hmmmm , it's been a while.
If I go home that way tonight, I am going to do a drive by.
That is about as close as it gets.
