Poulan Countervibes

My cousin just drug out his old countervibe 4000 the other day and it’s got me interested…..
Anyone have a countervibe saw? I’m looking at the 3000-5000 series ones to try and get my hands on for a toy. I think they were craftsman branded too.
I’m sure someone has one or 10 that could share pics and videos of?

 

Here's my 5200 CV. Found it at a auction. Runs great and heavy as heck.

Are they all magnesium? Recoil cover and all?

 

I have one in the shed, Craftsman branded. I will have to see which model it is. I have no use for it, IIRC it needs a fuel line. I will get a couple of pics for you.

That saw is the same as the Poulan 3700 CV. From Acres site. Model Profile: 3700

 

if you run the Craftsman model number it is a 3400, 56cc.

 

I just searched this morning and I came up with a 3.0? hmmmm

 

If you do a little digging, you’ll find that the 30 was actually a 3.4 they under rated it.

 

That’s cool! Wonder if it was under rated or if it’s one of those deals were they used a baffle in the transfers like husky did? I think between the 365 and 372?

 

Yes they are. Even the air filter and cylinder cover. I welded on a number of them.

I should clarify that is only on the big ones like the 5200.

The 3400, 3700 and 4000 countervibes use plastic on the cylinder cover and air filter cover but the recoil and clutch cover are Mag.

 

I've got a 3.7/3700 I need to put back together. Have to find a parts saw and I'll get on it.

 

Got her together today. Nice little firewood saw not a speed demon, but pulls nice. Little muffler work and some clean up in the cylinder ports and intake tract.

Little more tinkering today.

Seems pretty good and a bit snappier than some of the stock videos I’ve seen of them.

I’m thinking of going back into it and raising my transfers a touch… maybe gains. Little pick me up.

Anything in particular to watch out for? It’s not a bad looking saw. Definitely needs a cleaning!

 

Just the usual stuff. Clean cylinder and piston and good compression. I bought one cheap one time cause the guy said the off switch didn't work. He said it was like that from new. Turns out the ground wire was never installed. I could tell because the screw that held it was painted over from factory. Running I'd say $200 tops?

 

@J.Dirt. My one buddy drooped this off this morning. A guy he knows was taking it to the junkyard. He grabbed it for me.

I’ve got a craftsman version of that maybe a touch newer that was my grandpas. It’s an angry little saw and it has cut a TON of wood.
