Topped off the rack this morning, before the rains come in. Pretty obvious which is ash and what's red maple, eh? You can zoom in and check out my sophisticated dating system. I still have these RM rounds to process. I have the oak(?) pieces ready to be cut to length. Eric Wanderweg, here's that scarring mark you commented on, different angle. Each piece is hefty and the end cuts sure look like red oak.
Looking good there Mike. Raining good here with some wind. Is that going in the three year rotation? I use the same sophisticated dating system...when i remember to do so.
3yr will be fine. I know ash and RM dry quicker than oak, but I have a few cords of shoulder wood ready to go now. I intend to work the shoulder wood in with oak during the days, once the temps stay low.
That's a good looking rack . . . I like the idea of fanning in SS wood over the winter. Will keep that in mind stacking for next year. Several cord of SS wood is impressive. I have maybe half a cord...haven't been able to score any pine or poplar this year.
good you got it in and covered before the weather hit. I have a LOT of wood to move, and am hoping to get it in before the snow flies. It got rained on today though.
I’ve never seen metal brackets like the ones you have holding the bases of your wood rack together. Where did you find them. Your doing a great job procuring firewood for the future!
I got those a number of years ago from Home Depot. I can't find where their listed. This looks close, but not sure.
That setup does look good. Much cleaner and longer lasting than pallets (albeit more expensive). Might have to look into something like that as well once I get finally get tired of cribbing.
I spent some time in the woodyard this morning. Trying to consolidate a few things. I reckon I'll have to take it down now that it's free from rack duty.
Well, it eventually all came down. Just a stump. All cut and split. Sharing space in ElmHaven. I think I counted 16 splits. Opens up the area. I'll probably come to curse the remains of the stump. I even found a use for some elm pieces, while they age.
