Been a while… This bathroom rarely gets used as it’s the upstairs guest bath. Should have taken a full before picture, toilet was on the left center wall with an early 80’s 30” vanity directly opposed. Needless to say it left little in the leg department when seated. Complete with 1” white tile and the sought after avocado tub, leaking valves and corroded chrome fixtures. Initially I was going to get a powder room 18” deep vanity and round bowl toilet, but budgets be dammed! Moving vanity to the left wall 36” with offset sink and toilet to the right corner. Have a guy that can recoat the tub for $400. The tile was laid on a solid 1”+ mortar bed so I demoed that out took it to studs, new vent fan(that actually vents) corrected the insulation deficiencies, new electrical set. Waiting on a few PEX expansion adapters so I can eliminate the rest of the copper that sprang a leak this past spring, figured I have it open might as well.
Good to see you basod Hope everything goes smoothly for y’all- I’m sure you’ll photo-document the rest of the job.
Looks good, so far. I've got the same project waiting for me here, except it's my only bath. There is old plastic tile and adhesive to come off (!), so I may just rip out the drywall - much easier, for me anyway. I hate plumbing!
Can't wait to see how it turns out basod It is such a pain to do any extensive work on an only bath. I was taking kitchen sink "baths" for about 5 dyas when I had mine made over (the toilet did not get moved, so at least I didn't need an outhouse).
basod .. "C'mon man!" You've got to check in a bit more frequently! Quite the project you have going on there with moving things around a bit. Good luck, hope all goes well. (I literally hate drywalling! )
Couple other thing’s I had to do along the way. The copper lines ran up the wall under the stairwell. When I repiped the whole house in spring 2020 I just ran the PEX to the existing risers. Cut a panel behind the fridge to access and added a tee for the cold to fridge supply and ran the 3/4 PEX from the top down with abs radius brackets.
Replaced the entire tub/shower valve with a Kingston Brass set in brushed nickel. I could not confidently source new valve cartridges for what I think was a Sayco valve body and any type of retrofit dress up kit was substantially more$$$ than just replacing the whole deal
x10!! Very cool basod ! I dig the separate knobs for cold and hot water, some people don't like the single handle one, full blast from the cistern pump for rinsing down walls after cleaning but not so much for showering, dripping hot only into bath as the water cools down and even getting the correct temp/pressure to drip on house plants. *If* we ever do another bathroom I won't put single lever controls in again.
basod looking good so far. I feel your pain with the bath remodel. Little things that are done that nobody will notice. I'm with yooperdave, I hate drywalling too.
Ran into a guy locally that resprays them with a 2 part epoxy coat. He went to class and does it as a side gig. I’d recommend against using any of the tub paint kits sold at the box stores. There is another product Ekopel that I thought I wanted to try out but I just said nah pay someone for that part.
I was kinda stuck with the three knobs as the fiberglass tub was already drilled out for it. Not impressed with the flow rate to the suppliers shower head. After I install the wand will report back.
I tip my cap to you on a job well-done. Bathrooms literally and figuratively get the cr@p kicked out of them constantly and doing a strong remodel is a must if you want it to last. The strange thing about bathroom remodeling is that people only see the finished result. They don't see the blood, sweat and profanity that went into all the the structural elements. Frack, spackle priming and painting new greenboard is nothing compared to relocating plumbing, leveling a flooor etc. But when it's all done, and you have the peace of mind that it was done right, it's a dang good feeling. Wishing you pizza and beers.
Thanks for the kind words. This was a partial Christmas present for my GFs 5yo daughter. Hopefully she has all her youthful years in a nice space!
Got the electrical finished, plumbing and hung the medicine cabinet, door etc. still need a mirror and install the threshold otherwise done until the spring when I can take all the upstairs doors down and spray them outside.
