For about the last 5-6 years or so my little town has been having a Christmas walk about. Vendors come and sell their products in several locations around Main Street. Mostly scentsy, candles, soaps, homemade jams and crafts, that sort of stuff. Santa comes to see the kids, hot chocolate to be had, food to eat for free will donations, baked goods for sale. Lightning a Christmas tree in the courthouse lawn. It’s a fun little social activity in a small town. A couple years ago they started having little fire pits made from a barrel scattered around.
All the threads we have had the last couple years about dealing with shorts and uglies got me to thinking that this would be a good way to get rid of some of mine. So over the weekend I talked to a couple of the service club members about volunteering to man the fire pits, and got an overwhelming “the job is yours”
Tonight was the night. I started lighting the 5 fires at 3 this afternoon and kept them going good until 7 this evening.
I used one tote that was heaping full. Holy crap it takes a lot of wood for 20 hours worth of outdoor fires.
Got some bigger and better ideas for next year.
I took a few pictures but none of them really capture the essence of the event. It was an enjoyable experience of being part of a small community social event. 28D4B5DE-630A-4E70-B132-AB11E6D2CBC9.jpeg F0B40869-76B5-47E3-8973-73DAF23B2E0A.jpeg ED144E65-85C9-48FD-A12C-55C30E9B7970.jpeg FC0023D1-3D8E-4373-9E29-76E5799F765F.jpeg

Now that's some downright civic minded thinking right there. I might steal that idea.

Now that’s cool and a good use of uglies. I would sign up for that.

    Public fires are so nice.

I like the use of the barrel for the fire pit!

Sounds like a very nice time. Looks like it was well attended also.

I think I know what next year's idea might be. Does it involve roasting sticks?

You're helping make some great memories for many people! :handshake:

Next year, talking about blocking off some parking spots at the area where the program is to make room for a few more fires to keep warm by, in hopes of keeping more people around for the program part.

one of the youth groups was doing s’mores on one of them
I like the Swedish candle idea, gonna have to give that some thought
