The really old logs from that load had very little rot and only on the ends.

I just have to be careful how much lower quality splits i mix in a load. One score from last Winter had a lot of rot/insect damage.

Yes, there is quite a bit here on my woods and around the area!! I heard it is the locust borers that start the bad places that rot!! In Europe I heard they don’t have the borers and the locusts are highly regarded and use them for lumber!! It is a great firewood for sure and I try to season it enough we’re it loses the bark!!

I happily throw it in my stash for disposal, but I understand where you are selling it. I try to be picky with that wood as well.

Hit another little stash of storm clean up wood today. Victim of August 2020 storms. TOH log left behind. IMG_2198.JPG IMG_2199.JPG At least a face cord. Lots of hollow logs. Pot luck with BL as ive come to know. IMG_2200.JPG IMG_2201.JPG IMG_2202.JPG Before two rows IMG_2203.JPG After started third row IMG_2204.JPG Current tally five face cord plus. A little more left to get at this spot.

The black locust I got (with help of Joe) from 2020 Isaias is ready to burn now. I love this stuff.
    I’m a bit jealous.

It is great firewood. I hope Joe didnt infect you with locust mania??? :loco:  Its been making its way through Connecticut. Once you get it it may go into remission but can rear its "ugly" head at any time when you score more of it. Dont bother getting the vaccine as its useless.

Isaias and the tornado later that month (hit our area) put a lot of it on the ground. It doesnt rot so can be harvested many years later.

    Don’t worry they’ll make more :)

I’m trying to convince Brad to buy a small barge and spend our summers on the Ct River hauling in the leaners LOL

buZZsaw BRAD I've learned not to give up on BL that has a hollow section. It can be hollow at one cut and 3 inches up the log be solid as can be. So I keep cutting and take it all. When it comes to BL doesn't matter if it's solid, punky, or hollow, it all goes in the stacks. :)

I have seen that in a lot of the BL ive cut. Rot can be short of in this case the entire log.
I didnt give up on it though. The only parts i left were the chunk closest to the break off at the stump. There is a little more there plus some older stuff on the ground ill grab.

Todays cut was totally unexpected and not part of the little stashes i intended for this thread., but it gets added to the tally. IMG_2246.JPG IMG_2249.JPG Close to 7 face cord with this score. Today's score thread

Yup! Second outing with it today. First time solo. Bar has uneven wear on the rails as its cutting crooked. Rained out this afternoon so i hand sharpened a few chains and swapped out the 18" bar from the 361.

Started okay cold and hot, but i think it might have a minor fuel leak somewhere based on the way it ran.

It’s probably due for a new fuel line and filter. Could be the tank vent leaking too.
