Spent 45 min today making a 3 sided debris blind. 3 lengths of bamboo, camo cloth, and a whole lot of leaves and sticks. 1126221724a_Film2.jpg

Saw a small buck, then a doe kept snorting at me, she would not leave. I finally had it and took my shot.

Blood and hair, that's a good sign. I heard a crash just as she went out of sight. Went and got the dog and she found her in short time. These schwackers are awesome, 3" of cut.

Did not take a pic but I thought I gut shot her because guts were hanging out, they fell out while running. I cut the liver in half.

Used a golf ball and rope to pull the skin off. It worked really well and quick.

Some damm nice deer you guys are harvesting. I would take any of those.

The small 6 point I passed up, my neighbor shot last evening. :headbang:
So much for trying to let deer grow.
Calling for steady rain later today, so I'll probably stay in.
Hopefully I can leave work early a few days in the upcoming week.

No luck this weekend during PA's opener. Sat this morning before the rain came and had a young buck walk by 15 yards away....only thing I could not shoot due to antler restrictions. I had a doe tag burning in my pocket.

I've got 3 antlerless tags for down here, next county over from my house, where I've got friends with acreage. I have told them all, of they want one to three less does, that I can help them out. Muzzleloader season starts right after this gun deer season in Wisconsin.

Yesterday I was swapping hunting stories with a neighbor. He took a buck in the midst of 6 doe. I said in all the years I’ve hunted I’ve never seen a buck working doe.
Flashed forward to 6:40am, and this 8-pointer is hanging beside our house for over an hour with a doe and her to fawns (I think one fawn was either coming into or out of heat). Today was closing of rifle season, so he has another muzzle loader and bow season to make it through.
In 20+ years here we’ve never had deer near the house like we do this year.

I'm doing muzzleloader for the first time this year. PA has a muzzleloader only season right after Christmas. Any tips? I've never shot one lol

7;15 opening day for gun here. He would have been an 8 point but he must have been fighting over the girls. One side broke off but he's a good sized buck so I couldn't bring myself to pass.

Nice buck! I haven't seen anything and only heard shots way off in the distance in SE Ohio.

I've heard stories about guys shooting at bucks but not being able to stop looking at their antlers and end up hitting those instead of a kill shot.....maybe thats what happened!

No no, I didn't mean you! One of my former work partners told me that he took a shot a a big antlered buck and that is exactly what happened! He walked up to it and it "recovered" got up and ran off! He was sick! No blood or hair. He figures he knocked it out by hitting an antler.

We only use shotguns here in NJ so locking your eyes on the antlers isn’t a bad thing. Pretty easy to aim at the head/face and get a kill.

Guys.. I'm 35 but got a trophy of a lifetime on black Friday. Please remember I'm in NE Texas, hunting whitetail, and this is rare for the locale.

Had a busy week.. family health issues... but, my little family got back from Walmart around lunch. I sat down on the couch and wife asks if I want her to warm up leftovers for me. I tell her I'll get my own and fall asleep on the couch.

Wake up about 1:15 and warm a plate. When I finish and am cleaning up, I look out the back window. I see a big buck walking toward and past where I split and have some wood stacked.

I grab the binoculars and tell her to come look. She couldn't spot him due to the limbs.

I go grab my 18" Ruger American Predator and screw on the silencer (faster than a James Bond villian). I go back to the window and don't see him, so I head out quietly. I go through the gap in my h-brace and to a stack of wood. I can't see him, and don't know if I should proceed and maybe scare him... but I go.

I go about 75 yards and past a small pool and I see a doe and she spots me. I squat down and hide my face. As soon as she looks away for a moment, I squat Indian style and aim to hide my face better.

In one of those unbelievable instances, the buck steps into the small shooting window, and they are only maybe 90 yards away, but the doe is blocking him. He is looking, but doesn't know why she is alert.

Another brush of God's blessing and she steps clear. I take my shot and he jumped HIGH and blood is visibly letting out.

He jumped again and ended up only about 15 yards from where he was hit.

Holy smokes, great buck, congrats! You're not gonna mount that thing? That many posts and mass, I think I'd have to spend some $$!

Thanks. I've always home done a "European style mount", and this will be done the same. If I do want a cape mount later, I'll use a different big bucks cape
