I will put MM to it. Like stated the nice splits go into the shed and lesser ones general cordage. Unsure of where the WO will go. It will get processed at the same time. I may split the heartwood smaller and mix with bundle wood! There are many GM killed WO in the woods there. I can have them all but PITA to get them out.

He is letting me build lean-to shed there for more storage. Just have to lay it out and figure out how i want to build it. I have a lot of the material on hand already.

Been wanting to get back here. Brought over the splitter (its next door at my main storage) and ran a tank of gas through it. IMG_2336.JPG IMG_2337.JPG Bucked a white oak which will get stacked on my half cord racks. Several more standing dead to harvest. IMG_2335.JPG IMG_2338.JPG

Nice stuff. I love maple...not the most BTUs, but dries fast. Unfortunately don't have much that's easy to access.

Have a fair bit of hard maple. But it’s mostly in pretty hilly/ravine areas on my land.

Heck probably have a fair bit of red too. I’m still learning to identify within species. Either way all thr maple is in hard to get places

When I see signs of those when splitting, I grab my propane torch and try to roast as many as possible.

Normal warm weather MO for me, but mine died a while back. I normally have one in the PU for work.
I was way in the back yard anyhow so the PU wasnt close. PITA sometimes if i need or forget something when working there.

Wanting to get back this week to S/S the white oak.

Rain let up enough for me to pull and stage the rounds for splitting next to the racks. At least a half cord. Ill S/S these and fell more close by. IMG_2443.JPG Yard is such a squishy mess. Hoping for more freezing weather as we've had the January thaw since last month! :picard:

Brought the hydro over and split then stacked all the white oak. Yard was starting to freeze up but still soft. Just over a half cord. Inside dimensions of those racks is 5' x 10'. Rest of the wood from red maples has been processed. IMG_2570.JPG Couple more standing dead WO to drop right there in the woods. IMG_2573.JPG IMG_2574.JPG

Neat and tidy as always
I like the tarp under the splitter too. Much better than letting all the splitter trash fall onto the ground, then mushing it into the dirt as you’re stepping all over it.

Thats the tarp that covers the splitter so i improvised. With the bark mostly gone and the sapwood punky it was rather messy. Being standing dead for 5+ years im wondering if this will be ready for next year?

Definitely....maybe. In December I went through a small run of GMC killed white oak that I cut about a year ago. I never bothered checking the M/C, but it did burn great and I never saw any water boiling out of the ends.

I cut a dead standing red oak in May. It had been dead for at least 2 years. I split it and stacked in my house burn this winter rack. It’s been burning good, but I saw a couple boilers.

Red maple makes up ~80% of my shoulder wood. Mixed in with some ash, Elm, and ash.

I expect to be burning my shoulder wood the entire heating season., during the day when we're around.
