18 years ago they didn't have anything for nerve pain except the stuff you could get hooked on. Today I am prescribed 'gabapentin' for nerve pain. It works. Thanks all for your prayers and well wishes. My first surgeon 18 years ago had a sign on his office wall that said something like "God is the one who heals and I just lend him my hands". Seeing that, put my mind at ease before surgery. Knowing you are in God's hands is more comforting that being a baby in his moms arms.
All I know is, my oncologist said he can 'cure' my lymphoma, not put it in remission and I'm good with that though I'm certainly not looking forward to spending 4 1/2 days in the hospital with a bag of potent chemicals dripping into my body time 6 sessions. It is what it is. Better than succumbing to it and being underground plus I've been told that it's a terrible death. I want to expire in my sleep actually. I have to do it in the hospital so they can keep an eye on me and make sure I don't go into cardiac arrest. The stuff they are going to give me is very potent. I'll probably loose my hair again and my fingernails too. That happened last time, 4 years ago. This time I'll be wearing my Relief Band. They do work quite well. I will say I'm thankful we have high option BC/BS, my out of pocket costs and about nil. What Medicare don't pay, BC/BS does. I don't know how people with marginal heathcare can survive. Last time my total bill approached a million bucks.
I don't know if you read up on gabapentin but in its own way it's bad. many stories of people not being able to stop taking it. My friend is on it, he can't remember anything anymore. Doc tried to get me on it. No thank you. I don't have health care, put me out to the field and let me die.
So sorry to hear you are dealing with the C word again. My dad had it twice, we will keep you in our prayers.
I went in yesterday to get my first steroid shot in my back. So far so good. I was told it could take up to 2-3 weeks to get the full effect. I will continue to take it easy for now. Thanks for all your prayers. God Is good.

Hey Erik B , Glad you’re getting some relief from the injections! I was told 40 years ago that I absolutely had to have back surgery and soon…..I have avoided it so far with steroid injections but I have not been anywhere close to “pain free”, just kept hoping and praying that some newer technologies would come around and could avoid surgery. Two weeks ago I had a pain specialist (recommended by my current orthopedic specialist) actually perform a procedure that “kills” the specific nerves in my spinal cord (6 different places) where the pain is originating. So far so good, not completely pain free but better than before. If this doesn’t work I am potentially looking at spinal fusion from L-2 all the way down to S-1. I want to avoid it like the plaque . MRI showed a herniated disc on me several years ago. My chiro (exceptional chiro) did traction on me for like a month 3 to 4 days a week to stretch my spine. That and a book I have recommended many times "Treat your own back" by Robin McKenzie. Kept me from the knife. Still do the exercises in the book every morning.
