No I haven't tried it but would like to. Wish I could get my wife on board. I think it is much better for you.
The wife was the one that wanted to do it. I don't eat much out of what it was any way so it's not a big deal to me. It was a little bit of a shock to the girls who can't eat kraft mac and cheese and other box junk.
This challenge is new to me. Interesting. I started with the nutribullet a couple of weeks back. Trying to change some bad habits. Everything going into the "smoothie" is fruit, green leafy vegetable, roasted beet, yogurt, ground flaxseed, raw almonds, raw honey, citrus. I must say they taste pretty good. Better than picking up a breakfast bagel or biscuit on the way to work. On the down side, I seem to be ravenous in a couple of hours. Only doing it for breakfast so far, but I think the 10/100 day food challenge will align with the smoothies perfectly.
http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/take-the-10-day-pledge/ I am totally ignorant about this. Must read. I am currently enjoying "brown and chunky" frozen burritos microwaved with some cheddar on top plus a diet caffeine free pepso for lunch. Hey, I only weigh 165 and am 5'9" so I'm not fat but always looking to feel better.
It has helped the wife's problem with dry skin. There were things it said would help but I've not noticed much difference for me. I eat a decent variety even stuck in a motel depending on fridge space.
Healthy eating for those who work away from home can be a real challenge. Too easy to fall into a rut with "junk" food. Same with overnight shifts. First thing the doc asked me after he found out I work 11-7, "how's the diet?"
Nice mdav! Never a bad idea to "healthy" up one's diet. I like to think I do ok diet wise...eat a lot of fruit and veges and the bulk of my meat consumption is either venison, elk or fresh caught trout. My one weird junk food craving that I always indulge when I get the chance is to stop at Mcdonalds and get two cheeseburgers and a medium fry. Good thing I'm 80 miles from the nearest one so it only happens twice a year.
I make wraps for work and take fruit of different sort with me. I do eat some cereal/protein bars to make it between meals sometimes. This hasn't been a big shell shock for me but the kids have had it rough for a day or so. After that they've adjusted pretty good.
That's part of my problem! We have 58 Mcdonalds in Maine and most of them are within 80 miles of me..
Ya'll can have the McDs. If I eat out it's usually subway, quiznos, or sonic if no other choices. I do like pizza and try to get some real authentic stuff when I'm in the north east.
I feel your pain Save. The only saving grace for me is that my exposure is limited. I go to Missoula for a costco run every 6 months or so and on the way home pass by three or four Mcdonalds. One of 'em sucks me in every time.
We do have a subway in the little town I live by and I'll occasionally stop in for a 5$ sammy. Seems like a pretty good deal and it's much better than the average fast food (at least it seems like it). I'm with you on pizza...love a good pie but the only good pizza I'm gonna find in this area is gonna have to be made by me (Montana isn't really known for it's great pizza).
We made some this past weekend with whole wheat crust and sauce we made and froze with fresh mozzarella and parmesan. It was better than what we normally make.
What do you have to avoid in this real food challenge? I'd say the majority of my consumption is unprocessed(exception sausage) and any condiments. So far as bacon is a real food I'm in
