Gotcha, yeah I always thought most everyone used softwood when boiling sap. Hotter fire, but you have to load it more often. But I'm sure you know what burns best in your rig. *red maple is a softwood?
Yea Red maple is a hardwood.....but all our wood is split small..and really dried good. Seems to give us what we need. Our woods is 99 percent hardwood....and needing thinned and managed badly...so that's what we use. Our firebox is so small...we would be reloading every 3 minutes lol...and probably need double the wood !
It's a treat to get a Cucumber tree as big as the one I'm gonna try and mill. Usually they get about this big..and already look funky.
Finally starting to process this Cucumber wood up. I think it'll mix in with the hardwoods just fine. Haven't cut in the snow in many years. Kinda nice !
