I pruned a bunch of branches off of a tree in my front yard (Japanese cherry tree, I believe). The branches are 2 to 3 inches wide. I cut them into 18" lengths. Will they dry out ok if I just throw them in my wood pile? I know some big rounds don't dry out unless they're split. Thanks.
Yep they should dry just fine. It’s a surface area thing. Any round will dry, but as the round gets bigger it will dry slower. Prohibitively so for larger rounds. I generally split 4” and larger here for my personal preference.
I've been stashing 3" & 4" rounds unsplit in the stack to be used for 3 years out. (mostly Oak, Birch, Ash). If you want to use them sooner and have the time, splitting might be a good idea. SCA
Yep, they will. I don't split from about 4-6" and down. In fact, I just lit up a fire with some very dry maple rounds.
Yes they will. Mix them in with splits and burn them when the time comes. I split 4-5" and up. I dont get a lot of "skinnies" unless i harvest a whole tree as most of my wood is scrounged.
