I've heard and seen a bit about those sika deer. Interesting how they got here and how they've adapted.

Raining too hard yesterday morning (opening day) so I stayed inside. In the afternoon I sat overlooking a 2acre clear-cut. Windy, noisy. Fifteen minutes before closing he stood up out in the slash, 75 feet in front of me. Nice compact rack, 135 lb.

I hunted hard all last week and passed on a few decent bucks then this guy gave me the slip on Friday and Saturday morning. Today after work took my climber in for a quick hunt and climbed a tree about 20yds from a trail I'd seen him following those two days. He didn't follow the trail exactly but he did give me a 32yd shot and I was able to make it happen. Got the kids out to help me track him which made it even better.

    Awesome! Never give up.

It's been a frustrating last few days. Saw 2 nice buck running deer. No interest in my efforts.
Had a buck in a field eating. Tossed some grunts at him. He could od cared less. Guess he's not too horny. :D

Try again today. 1st archery ends friday.

Slow start to the whitetail season here. Numbers are down from a stupidly long winter, and they just don't seem to be out n about as much as they should compared to other years. Went for a quick afternoon hunt not 200 meters from home...temps were nice but 20 mph winds and some snow. Watched 4-5 does/yearlings mill about but no bucks to be seen. It's kind of funny though, this same group was being pestered the other day by a love struck fork horn lol and they weren't having none of it! :rofl: :rofl:

Cleanup crew. Something bigger came in overnight and knocked the camera over before it got a picture.

    Nice deer Ejp1234 .
    Cool pic Flamestead

Still at it. Last day of first archery. Seen some buck this week. Only one gave me a shot. Of course he stepped into a hard quartering away shot, right out of shooting lane. Didn't want to take the chance. Rather go home empty than lose a deer.
Beautiful cold morning today but been slow action

Saw this buck coming up the driveway from my wood scrounge today. Some of them pics look like pictures of Bigfoot.

20221113_081251.jpg Well hunted a different stand this morning, worked out good. He's no wall hanger but he's meat on the ground. 20221119_073733.jpg 20221119_073703.jpg 20221113_081251.jpg

Still looking around without much success. tracks, scrapes, and rubs everywhere but not much for lovestruck bucks. Spent 6 hours yesterday plodding around, and only saw a Texas buck aka a bazillion points but a runty body during my travels.  If he sticks around for a few years there will be some nice antler genetics in the area though

Thanks guys. We have some really good deer here but the big bucks have gone nocturnal. Rut just now kicking in so maybe they will start moving.
