Last night it was my son's last highschool football game. It was a tough loss in district playoffs. It was his last time playing a football game with all the good friends he has made, the last time wearing the Dallas blue #66 jersey, the last week of him being gone all week at practice, the last time I will hear him complain about running because the underclassmen were late or didn't show up, and the last time I get to hug him over a football field fence after a game. I almost feel lost now without the Friday night lights. I will still go to the hometown games, and have a lot of young men to cheer on in the coming years, but I feel it won't be the same without my son being out there. He doesn't plan on going to college, he wants to do an apprenticeship in either electrical or HVAC.
Kids grow up fast and life changes. Both my boys played baseball and were pitchers. I loved being at the ballpark all day every Saturday during LL years and living vicariously through the highs and lows they experienced. There was LL, travel ball, legion ball, middle school, high school ball and during the winter they were on the swim team. Than it was over, my boys were gone and I was left with lots of good memories of the time we spent at the ballpark.
Lotta great memories. My son played baseball and my daughter softball and cheerleading. Sure do miss it and like you mentioned, it's not the same w/o your own kid out there. Now we can watch my BIL's 2 boys on occasion. Jim's right, they grow up fast and before you know it they move out. Best of luck to your son on the hvac/electrical path.
Congratulations to Pricey106 and his son. The guys are right. The next yeats will go by fast and the older you get the faster they seem to go. It does not seem that long ago when my sons graduated. Next month my youngest will turn 58 already!
That is awesome that you have that many years with your son, and he has that with you. My dad died when I was 33, he was 66. I hope to have the amount of years together as you do. I can say I have a lot of help in the woodyard now. Since Sunday my son has split almost a cord and a half by hand, and moved 2 cords of rounds to the splitting area. He wants to start selling once we get our 3 year plan done.
