Basically the entire state is shut down. I was going to go deer hunting for the first time in 20 years with my brother this weekend and mother nature changed our plans. I'm in central ND and it was white out bad today. My mom and brother live in SE ND and are out of power because it started with rain and power poles are snapping all over, power company called them and said to expect 3-4 days without power.
Just over 4 hours blowing and shoveling snow today. Over a foot came down for our first snowfall of the year. I sure hope it doesn't make it a habit this year.
Greenstick I saw that blizzard warning up there & was going to inquire how you fared & what the total was.
Never thought about it before but if you lose power, the poles just break? You don't have tree troubles up there, I suppose, like we do here, where trees line the utility ROWs. You'd think they would have figured out how to design utility lines that won't break. What is the situation up there when you have ice storms, poles snap, no way around it?
The combination of freezing rain that adds a lot of weight to the lines and wind starts them swinging and the stress is just too much and either the lines break or the poles snap. The lines can be buried but that is cost prohibitive.
