How will a drain hole affect the pumping of water ?

I want to thank everyone that has read and replied here. I am learning a LOT and I very much appreciate people sharing their knowledge and experience.
I do plan on buying a bigger generator in the future. But, as Everything ! Has to be bought. If I don't have to buy another generator just yet. I will be much ahead of the game.

Not much as the hole can be as small as you think will not plug up with your water quality. A path is needed for the water to drain out of the discharge line.

    Good thread!

That Everbilt pump has an integral check valve on the discharge, so likely you could unscrew the plastic end & remove the check for water drain back… prob voids their warranty though. The pipe to the house would need a proper grade/slope down towards the well head too.

If the pump is only ran to fill the house holding tank, then Screwloose’s small hole in the pipe, close to the pump idea would work best. Vent that storage tank at top, as you’ll get a lot of air & bubbles when you fire the well pump up every time.

If it was a standard pressure switch application, that hole would cause the pump to cycle on/off all the time.

The Simple Pump set-up has a 1/16" weep hole down about 6', which keeps the line from freezing. The only hiccup I had was the vertical pump shaft, slightly froze up, at the top, where it slides through O rings. I backed our atv up to the well head and warmed it with the exhaust. Took about 10 minutes.

I have used exuast from generators to wasm up Lots of iron .
I don't know how many BTUs this Honda EG3500 generator puts out. But the way I looked at it, it was a lot more than none!
I used to put it and my 50kbtu space heater under the tarp that I covered my loader with . At -45°F it would take 9 gallons of generator gas and#1 stove oil to get the 371 Detroit diesel it had in it started

It would take more than that to get me started at -45°!

    Thank you.
    Thank you !
YES the holding tank will have a 2" vent line out of it. The water line from the well to the house will have a loop of hot PEX that runs
up to the valve in the well house then to a small baseboard heater then back to the house. It will be heated by a coil around the woodstove pipe. As will the septic line.
For this winter, it will be a garden hose type hose that I reel up and store in the warm.
My plan is to install the water line this coming summer. IMG_20220925_172403782.jpg
