I cut a lot of sweet gum and poplar for my parents firewood needs during my post logging cleanups. I'd leave on the ground to rot if not for them. Wouldn't dare try to sell either to any of my firewood customers.
Yup, it's softer than "traditional" hardwoods but "Yes Virginia, it is a hardwood!" But, getting the train back on track, it is a relief to learn that the firewood is NY approved. Wouldn't want them burning non-approved wood.
The 14 mbtus a cord of poplar put it well under the better conifers as far as BTU ratings. I'll use the term that forester's use, pulpwood, to classify it as not a premium firewood.
Maybe the oak and maple is the "premium" part and the poplar and gum are the "lights fast and easy" part? Lol Should say "burns fast and easy" for those two woods....
Do you think Walmart gets 1/2 or more of the retail? Imagine the negotiation. You sell it to us for $3 a box and we’ll order 50 million boxes. I should have opened the box. I peered in and saw some narrow raggedy pieces, probably the gum.
