Hoping for a night at the fire pit, however, the rains all day shot that idea down. Beer on the couch I suppose. (And the new cozy of course!)
Sam Adams does some really interesting beers. Friend of mine went down to Boston last weekend and said he tried a beer that they made especially for a restaurant they went to, Sam Adams Constitution I think he said. Quite good too.
This one is pretty well balanced at 9%. The hops don't come out at you. It definitely doesn't get your way. Locally distributed, Defiant is less than 2 miles from my house. Quite convenient.
Hops and alcohol are the only preservatives in beer. The history of IPA is pretty interesting. The India part of it came to be because the British needed to supply the soldiers in India beer back in colonial times. Traditional pale ales brewed in the UK couldn't survive the trip to India on a ship. So they cranked up the alcohol a little (more barley) and dialed up the hops to balance things. It survived the trip and the IPA was born.
