Got out Friday, Saturday and Sunday and started cleaning up the oaks that I had knocked down at my house. They had a heavy lean over my shop and the power lines so I opted to have a tree service come in with a bucket truck and chuck them down. Gotta know your limitations I asked them if they could knock them down in 20" chucks (or multiples of) for my stove. They obliged my request and did and awesome job at that. Got out the wood chipper to clean up the branches and started cutting the stems into stove size sticks for their three year appointment with the stove. Got to run the 572 in some of the bigger stuff... This is a Huskihl built 572 and it run like a top. Full house chain, 32" bar, with a .035 raker depth. Oak was about 23" in diameter. Saw was already warmed up before making the cut. I like to let it idle for a minute or two before doing WOT. I was playing with the raker depth with the westcoast saw depth gage. I think .035 is a touch aggressive with a full house chain. The kerf was getting plugged with chips, but boy did it cut fast when it didn't Might try a semi-skip chain just for grins. Wish I had more of the big stuff to play with
Nice stuff there Joe. Great that they obliged your request. Nothing more annoying than random length rounds. Impressive video. Fun to cut with for sure.
Dang, saw went through there pretty quick. Plans to use the .025 setting on that WCS plate after the next sharpen or two? I'd do that before starting to skip teefs.
Stick with the full comp chain. Your rakers are low enough to where it’s cutting such big chips that it can’t spit them out fast enough and they are clogging up the bar rails. Your next few sharpenings will take care of that. I think skip chain will actually make it worse in this case
Uhg... I've spent the last 3 days cutting and splitting these oaks. I've got one more tree yet to finish splitting (all cut up) which won't quite fill up my last row. Almost 17 cords CSS. Money in the bank. My Saturday night consisted of beer, brats and burning the bark, and scraps from the splitting process....
good deal! You should be all set going forward. That brat pic is making me hungry. I'm actually looking at selling another 10-20 cord. I need to make room as I foresee this winter providing lots of wood again. If you know of anybody around the area looking for firewood, send them my way.
