If you burn propane as a primary heat source or as a backup heat source (as we do as our primary heat is solid fuel), propane cost per gallon delivered hasn't went up too much here in Michigan so far but... I was discussing it with one of my hunting buds who just happens to own the local propane distributorship up town and he told me he expects the price of propane in the midwest and east, northeast to take a sharp increase in price after the mid term elections. He ought to know as he buys all the wholesale propane for the company so he's always monitoring the price. Be apprised that of you need gas (propane) and aren't on auto fill (we aren't) or on a pre determined price per gallon, you might want to top off your capacity before mid November. We pre bought an additional 750 gallons at $1.99 this fall so we have plenty for the year. Current price here is $2.69. He's expecting that to increase at least a buck fifty per gallon after mid November..... Ouch.
It 4.09 a gallon where i live. It getting to where the basics to live and survive has gotten out of hand . I don’t see how people that are on fixed incomes will be able to make ends meet. To much government control and regulation.
Propane cost seems to be entirely regional and I used to assume that because propane is cracked from crude oil, the per gallon cost would run with the cost of motor fuel but here at least, it's not. Not to venture into politics at all but it almost appears to me like this high fuel cost thing is planned.
Fill up your tanks, burn solids and when a shtf moment comes and it can't be had sell it back at a profit.
I use propane as well as back up heat , water heater , and clothes dryer . Just checked the pricing and it’s still $2.29 here in mid Michigan , price hasn’t changed since July. My supplier list their price history online going back 7-8 years . Kinda interesting. Still way less than in the beginning on 2014 when it hit $3.79 gallon .
Not that far from you actually. I watch the Michigan propane website and so far it's stable. Just passing on what my hunting buddy and propane supplier told me and I presume he knows. in the business, buy (and sells) it both wholesale and retail and has for at least 35 years now. When I pre buy and top off my bottles (I own 3, 500 gallon bottles), I do it when he tells me to. A lot of it will depend on how the local election for governor goes for reasons you already know and I don't need to get into on here.
We were surprised when we did our prebuy in the summer that prices weren’t that much difference from last year.
I have just a 300 gallon tank , usually only need to fill it once a year so not a huge expense . Wish I could get natural gas but it will never come down my road . My brother in law hauls gas and diesel fuel , seems like it’s 8000-9000 gallons on his truck . He’s been driving for 30 years and he’s called before telling me “gas is going up at midnight .50 cents “ or whatever . He will work OT and top off all the stations that the company owns . Company makes some good profits when this happens . Family member lives in Wyoming and works for a decent size oil company . He’s an electrician and works on the pipeline , I believe 3 states he covers . Dan told me some in and outs also about how these companies manipulate the prices . He sees it firsthand. Price of a barrel of oil drops and they will quit pumping . They will wait till price goes up and start again . There’s much more to these prices than just who’s elected . I certainly don’t want to get in the political crap either .
Our propane use is mostly for cooking. We do have a Lopi gas stove in the basement that we don't use much. Our gas tank is only around 100 gallons and it cost us over $4.00 per gallon on our last fill. The smaller the tank the more they charge. Neighbors around me that heat with propane and have 500 gallon tanks are able to buy propane for less than half of what I am charged.
