Got in BIG trouble the other night with Amy. I made pancakes and used her coated steel griddle and ruined it. Been wanting to get a cast iron stove top griddle and I see Cabelas has them (I presume Lodge) and I just happen to have a 60 buck gift card so that ss the plan. Never had a cast iron griddle, is there anything special I have to do to it? I'm the pancake guy because Amy don't do well with them, she turns them into cinders. Any help would be appreciated and yes we have Vermont pure maple syrup in the larder.
Just like firewood, the cast iron needs to be seasoned. Same word, different process Lots of info here....... cast iron fry pan myths
Well, wife and I visited the local Cabela's emporium and bought a Lodge pre seasoned cast iron round griddle that I immediately drop tested on their tile floor from about 4 feet up. Slipped out of my hands and darn near landed on my wife's foot (didn't, missed by an inch or so, lucky for me, I'd be dinnerless if it had smashed her toe...lol It was a gift certificate buy so cost me zip. Don't usually shop Cabelas as a rule anyway. Too high priced for my liking but the Lodge was 20 bucks and I had a 50 buck gift card. Bought a pair of the Lodge cloth handle covers too. Red and blue one on keeping with the republican-democrat theme... Nice, heavy casting. Looking forward to making pancakes on it.
Taking stock of the round griddle I can see she might employ it as a head knocker if I really irritated her. My wife is a 6 foot tall German gal with a short fuse.
