I'm not surprised by that at all. I've been through a lot. Do you have a link so I can see species further down the list?
Uh oh Brad, looks like the homeowner is motivated to get the rest of this maple moved! FREE WOOD FREE WOOD - free stuff
That was the ad i answered. Lady responded right away and i went next day which was the 17th. Got it all split up and mostly stacked today. I hand split some here too. Even the splits were heavy. The more i work huge logs the more i like Goldilocks wood. Still debating on going back.
That’s a steel tip dart body. As entrepreneurial as you are Brad, I would think you should be able to market “Brad’s sweet noodles” or something similar. I only charge a 20% consult fee.
In my personal experience, I would have to say locust or hickory. Beech would be right up there as well with sugar maple right there.
I would also like to see a link to that wood weight table if possible. What is goldilocks wood? I guess I knew but I forget.
Back for another load today. Decided to see what i could salvage from the other side of the property. Found two nice red maple trunks partly buried. Had to clear one top to get at them. Made 90% of a load. Some rot and ants on one. Very typical of red maple. The other was solid. Few rounds of white oak and a small black birch topped it off. Split about 2/3. Found a screw while splitting. Never took any more big maple.
Ya know i looked at and couldnt place it even though i knew ive seen one before. Been many years since i used a dart.
Reminded me of one of my roadside scrounges. I hacked my way in and cleared around the logs. It was a rockledge hillside of sort. Rolled to flat area and halved, then flipped them down below to the driveway. Was a PITA but easier than the big bertha maple.
