I just like saying the word sassafras All of the Sassafras foliage I’ve seen in my area turned a fiery red this fall. I do have about 3-4 stove loads worth of the stuff that I cut last year, that I should get to try out shortly.

We have several sassafras here. They are beautiful in the fall, especially if they are amongst some red maples. Be sure too to watch for new leaf in spring as there is beauty in them then too.
Some trivia: File' (pronounced "feelay", a gumbo spice) is made from ground sassafras leaves and tea can be made from the roots. I have lots of sassafras on my property. It makes great kindling, very easy to split fine, dries fast.
I remember learning the ID of this a long time ago when I was in Cub Scouts. They referred to the three leaves as the " Hand , Mitten and the Glove"
