I got a load this spring. Paid 1100 for 11 cord. Nice. Figured I would get another truckload this fall since my scrounging days are numbered. I called the same logger and for the same sized load, the price is now 1500. "No thanks, not prepared to spend that amount right now" That was maybe 3-4 weeks ago. Well, I kept looking and finally got ahold of a guy today. This friday, I should be able to take a pic or two of a 12 cord load......100 a cord...... Then he adds... "Would you be opposed to all oak?" Me......... Yeah, that'll work.
$100/cord is the going rate for a load of oak firewood logs down here in the Ozarks. I would have figured it would be more that far north.
You have it at the house too. Easy to process and no wear and tear on your truck. Another ex logger bought a processor and is now selling dead standing at 4 cents a pound split and dumped off at your place. I guess he has over 300 ton worth of orders to fill still this year.
I wonder if he would deliver to Manistique? That would be a nice way to stock my cabin for a few years. PM me contact info please, or post here for others. Thanks.
Actually, when he offered oak (red oak up here) he mentioned it rather apologetically. I hesitated briefly and then said "will it be the same price or a little less? "No, it's the same price." You think my heavy breathing gave me away?
Can you imagine the fuel surcharge now? Ouch. I figured the other day I would have to charge 5 bucks a loaded mile, and 3 dead head return.
