Where is that thimble/ install location? Basement? Always liked the look of stove pipe going into masonry.

I did a 30 minute generator run with load on it today to exercise it. It’s enough to run the fridge, pellet stove and internet. Need to do the snow blower next and check that out. She’s coming up on 30 years!

I run ours about every 6 weeks with a load on it as well. Had a Generac 6500w that had been my dad's. When I went to test it, it ran fine but no power output. Replaced the brushes and VR unit but either the rotor or stator was bad. Sold it for $50 to a local small engine guy who wanted it for the engine. So now I put a load (a 1500w space heater & a 1500 hair dryer) on each 120 side to be sure.

Keep and rebuild the old one for a spare. The bearings are replaceable. One thing I do when I oil mine which I do every fall when it all comes apart is, I'll use light machine oil on the bearings but with the fan stood vertical so the oil has a chance to get in the bearings first vertically one way and sit for an hour and then vertically the other way for an hour.

They have to have residual magnetism in the rotor to produce power and you can usually 'full field' them to restore it. Never been a worry with our diesel standby because it self loads the head when it exercises.

Yep i planned on keeping it to tear down and try to get some numbers off the bearings or at least the motor. I could only find the complete unit (squirrel cages included) and it was $150. If I can repair the old one for a spare that'd be nice.

Started feeling crappy Wed night, wasn't any better by yesterday morning. Some symptoms were covid like but I just had my booster shot 10 days ago (and was mildly sick for 2 days afterwards) so it couldn't be, right? Took a home test, yup positive for covid. So far this makes 4 times I've had it, 2 times after vaccine and boosters. Starting to feel a little better today.

Today is get the pellet eater connected and fired. Saving the last few drops of oil in the tank in case we have issues. Worse case I might be able to donate to a needy person as the "nut crazy chit" might happen.
