Must have been asleep at the chainsaw two years ago. Got nothing but white ash and white oak for this winter. Oh well, we'll make do with that. And lotsa uglies.

I've heard of ironwood but never have seen it. I was beginning to think it was the stuff of myths and legends like Unicorns and Leprechauns.

You guys are nuts. I've got a truck full of bundles from the gas station, and I'll take a tree down in November. If you cut too early, the wood will rot and burn too fast. As it gets too dry, the energy evaporates. Last year, I had a chimney fire, but that was unrelated.

For me here in northern AZ, it'll be ponderosa pine followed by alligator juniper. Then when it gets colder, the oaks (white and emory) will be introduced to the Napoleon.

    Pine for shoulder season.

Hardwood when the temps turn to frozen hell.

Standard fare here, Aspen and Lodgepole Pine.

I called the end of July as the "start" of my burning season. Guess what? Outside of a few days, been 24/7 for at least 2 weeks straight now. Luckily, the BKK is a once-a-day feeder, if that.
Around here, wet, wet, and cold. Snow dusted the peaks this morning.
It'll be here, much sooner than we want.:(

Serious panic with the local contractors. I'm an office guy now, our shop guy's get off around 4pm. We close at 5pm.
I cut steel until 5:30 almost daily, just to keep them moving. I draw the line at welding, not gonna do that if I can help it.

Just glad I don't work for A-Basin, they're still doing dirt-work for a few projects.

I'm in a similar oaky situation with the majority red oak and some white oak thrown in. For shoulder season, I'll use some of the slightly punky oak and uglies.

Some punky stuff and some Silver Maple... Mostly Silver Maple though..

Then it's the last if my "good wood". I have a seasons worth of 4 year old Oak (my 1st splittings I saved because of Backwoods) and some 3 year old ash and hickory.

Next year, I drop back down to 2 years seasoned wood. My Sciatica has gotten the best of me. I finally have come to terms with it. But it set me pretty far behind. That and giving it away to family and friends. .

I'm taking down 2 ash trees tomorrow. That will get put in the next year pile once it's split. I'm hoping that I won't need that wood till 2015-2016. My firewood is in a heap, so I never can determine how much I have. I'd guess 3-4 cords, which should get me through a normal year...Not last year though.

I keep hearing Farmer's Almanac predictions of a brutal winter. That we shall see.
