    Indeed it is!
Have you considered starting at say 1/3 of the way in from the outside instead of dead center? May not help too too much on that stringiness, but does help on stubborn wood in general.

I gave it a quick look over. PO had 3 6pack boxes stuffed in it and it's full of ash. What I saw looked very good. I think it's going to be fine after a bit of clean up. I might end up helping him cut wood instead of the other way around! Fingers crossed, :D.

This Elm was dead for a good while. One split down the middle and I end up with two large “all nighters”.:fire:

If it's anything like my quadrafire, it's a simple to use reliable stove. A razer blade to the glass will clean that up in no time. Dry wood will keep the glass clean, just don't put logs super close to the glass and it won't be an issue

    Thanks for that.
Can you please school me on the two adjustments on the right side? One's up top, one on bottom.

Well there's two "choocher valves". One is for the damper the other is for the air. On my quadrafire insert, the top one is the air, the bottom the damper. 99.9% of the time I don't need with the damper, leave it out/ closed. The air inlet leave full open until it's started well, then dial back.

2x6 dropped 70 cents and a couple sheet goods products dropped a dollar. First time I've seen lumber drop in quite a while. It can feel free to keep going, but I realistically don't see it going a whole lot much much lower.

Around here mill prices are up and that’s what they base firewood off. Even though firewood would never make good lumber hence it’s called firewood.

I think the one that is on the side is the one you won't need to mess with much. I've found I leave the " damper" one ( I think that's the one on yours) alone and for start up only, I leave the door cracked a tiny bit. So the one in the front is the main choocher valve you adjust during the burn.

Sorry. Been having a few drinks since I am not going anywhere tonight. It took me a few moments of thought to figure it out.:salute:

mornin folks! Finally winding down on one hell of an explosive growth year with our family business. Between that, and even more responsibilities at the day job, I havent had much time to myself this year, even with us hiring a few part time employees to help. Normally Id already be out in the shop doing what I can that isnt too loud to pizz off the neighbors, but today I get to go play with my chainsaw! I have a few trees in a friends yard that I need to finish processing, and get out of there for him. The last time I was there they were frozen to the ground, so I feel pretty bad that I left them all summer in the middle of his smallish yard, but he didnt seem to mind thankfully.

Hope all is well, I will try and get back on here more often if possible.

We just flew home from my nephew’s wedding in Colorado. It was a nice venue in the Littleton area.

We were treated to some very nice scenery to enjoy from the wedding seating area.

This young mule deer buck was eating grass a short distance from the wedding, then decided to come up and wander through after the ceremony.

Elm is horrid. no one i know around here will bother with it at all. We used to have a lot of elm, but with Dutch Elm disease and the wind, there are very few if any mature trees left. We get some young ones that pop up but it isn't long before they become diseased and die before they reach any size. There is an Elm street in town without an elm on it.

Paid full price and with the help of science I aged this metal over night. The gas that comes off the metal is awful so I stayed down wind and wore safety goggles. Still much to do will post pics with updates.

    These cut really good.
