Sellers, are you Increasing Your Wood Prices?

Well Gents, I just sold ALL of my own personal firewood, except for what is on my porch. I got an offer I just can't refuse. I just put an alternator in my 04 dodge diesel, and am off tomorrow to get 12 cords in by next saturday. I had 20 cord which is enough for a little over a year and a half for my family. I won't post the price as I got some slack from blue staters on selling my 500i three different times for stupid money. I sure don't want to get into a bickering match and I'm sure everyone will appreciate that.

The new owners are loading up the last of the three cord on the dump trailer now. Unbelievable sellers market here in my area. I'm glad I have access to wood that is going to hardly register on the Moisture meter. I'd never have done this in the south.

The son and I got two cord home yesterday. I saw the top of this dead fir with the spotting scope this morning. Thought I'd go see if I could drive to it in four wheel. Lucked out. Two full cord out of it. Dry as dirt even at the butt. Wish I took something bigger than a 462, but I got it done.

 

Yup thats definitely dead. How long do standing dead take to dry as is?

 

Doug fir usually takes about three years, Lodgepole about a year or so. Almost no one has to do the three years plan around here due to the nature of our climate and tree species. I never got extra wood for myself until the lumber market was regulated into oblivion and I quit logging. Now every single ranch has there own band mill and outside wood boilers.

 

Seeing the same market here, quite a few old timers retiring and nobody younger then 30 willing to do the work! I can't keep track of all the people requesting 1-3 cord deliveries, going to be a busy oct/early November! What is everyone getting for a cord of softwood? I'm right at $250 for 1.4 cords (5x10 dump with sides).

Selling winter stash here dry is out of question it would take kind of $$ I would feel bad for charging

 

By the Cord:

Sure is busy. Price depends on species. Lodgepole around 280 to three hundred in the round.

Spruce is about 250 in the round.

Doug fir is about 300 to 350 in the round. Everyone charges differently for splitting. Good dry doug fir split and just thrown out the back is almost 500. Some folks are buying green for next year, but not many folks will fill those orders due to the weight and less profit. I got all my wood to the house, and now I'm down to splitting and stacking the last two cord.

I wouldn't know. Probably quite a bit to the right person. Lots of out of staters from the south would probably be super happy to relieve you of it. It would be funny to post on craigslist to see if you had any hits.

 

Just sold my last 10 face cords of dry Oak for the year. $100 per face no delivery. Now I have room in the shed for my buddys boat to sleep for the winter.

 

Getting $275 a face cord in and around Nashville. Have tripled my October sales over last year and still have a few days remaining. Have been trying to deliver 2-3 face cords per trip since diesel prices are through the roof. Costs me about $50 in fuel for each 150 mile roundtrip. The cutting, hauling, splitting and stacking through this past miserably hot summer is paying off. Still have about 100 face cords of dry wood remaining and trying to cut more when I have a few hours of daylight remaining after deliveries. My head lamp is getting a workout in the evenings splitting and stacking.

Today was my 300th truck load of wood today for the year. Mostly hickory with a few beech rounds. Spilt and stacked it all tonight with my headlamp on. Love Fall weather for cutting, loading, splitting, and stacking.

The beer was only consumed after chain sawing. How dangerous can a beer make a fiskars behave?

 

Only two non delivery days in the last three weeks. Have a new 372xp sitting on my work bench that I haven’t had time to put the bar and chain on yet. Four face cords of hickory paid for it.

 

A fire wood company called the “Cutting Edge” sells one of the firewood holders pictured of hickory for $400. So my Rick of hickory for $285 was a bargain. Didn’t measure the rack, but think my Rick would have filled four of them.
