I broke down and turned up the t-stat for I am old and cold. My friend went to school today and I suspect was warm and cozy unlike this bear.

Bit nippy here last night and this morning, 40 last night, 43 this AM. Running the new condensing furnace. So quiet, I cannot even hear it running. Need to get after the bio mass stoves and get them online. Therm Guard works just fine with the new furnace too. Was a good buy.

Warming back up after today but it's coming without a doubt.

The fun chore of pulling out the winder a/c's got the check mark of done today! Put the shades up to try and get some sun(solar gain) in as possible, But it was't enough to ward off turning on the juice monster!

Haven't see the hummingbirds in about a week or so. Seemed early to me, But I guess they knew this was comming. We'll take their feeders down tomoorow and store until next spring!

We leave them in the bedroom window all year. Just cover them with a boot. Things are way too heavy to take out. Only ac in the house.

Sun helped with solar gain yesterday here too, but was so windy that it couldn't do the full job.

I'm sure you'll see more transient travelers come thru. I still have a hummingbird (youngster) hanging around - it hits the feeder daily. Haven't seen the mom or dad around so they most likely left already. However, I do still have a bunch of stuff blooming so it is possible they aren't hitting the feeder (but unlikely).

Pictures were taken 9/19. I was just taking a picture of the tube that had obviously been fed from (I had refilled a little earlier) and the youngster decided to photobomb :). The phone was 12-16" away from the youngster.

The gasket adhesive says to make sure to heat it up within 30 days of install. So with the cooler temps, and the wind howling all day (ald still doing so now), I decided it was a great time to have the first fire in the P61a. Unpacked everything, made sure it was all ready to go (some pellets still in the hopper so no pellets added). Flipped the thermostat from off to heat and raised the set point to 69 (it was 65 in the basement), and the stove did its thing. Happy to report no residual smoke smell (which I was getting a tinge during start up at the end of last season - so the gasket fixed the issue).

After it got going I did turn it to stove temp for 30 minutes to ensure it ran long enough to get the adhesive all set. Then I adjusted the thermostat to 65* and it powered down. Obligatory, pic or it didn't happen:

Then I saw the overnight temps were supposed to get in the 30's, without the wind letting up. Figured it would be good to ensure the P43 was in good working order, so repeated the process. Except this time I left the thermostat on 69 and let it run overnight (its run a total of 3 cycles so far.

Same here, Except the furnace has been running about once a hour or so. Hoping it warms ad the sun does its thing.

Yesterday and today, since the rain storm moved out, we have seen a wide variety of birds at our feeders. Wrens, blue birds, chickadees, finches, 3 different kinds of woodpeckers, cardinals and a couple mourning doves just now which we haven't seen in a few weeks. Haven't seen any hummingbirds for about a week. The woodpeckers devoured half of a suet square in 2 days.

I heard a weather report the other day ( a CH 7 Boston guy on the WEEI morning radio show) saying how the La Nina would give us a colder Oct-Dec but the 2nd half of winter wouldn't be bad. Maybe the birds know what's coming.

Also hardly any squirrels the past 10-14 days, not sure what that means.

House has stayed around 69 the past couple days, all the electric baseboard thermostats are set at 65, haven't heard them click on.

Gonna pull the window ACs out this upcoming week. Want to do the gas tank heat shield replacement on the Corolla first. Rotted out where the holes for the bolts under the tank are, started making noise a couple weeks ago. Wasn't in stock at either the Epping or Salem dealerships. Found one on ToyotaPartsDeal.com, a week later they said they had to order it, then got an email saying FedEx had upped the shipping rate (a couple days after they announced not meeting earnings forecast, coinkydink?) got it Tuesday. Put a couple coats of high temp Rust-Oleum on it. Should be warmer and less windy tomorrow. Old bones don't enjoy laying on cold ground anymore.
