so this is the issue. You can see the sides of the wheel are chipping away. I assume just wear and tear, it never made any noises that would account for that otherwise. It doesn't look like an easy job, and I assume the whole thing would have to be replaced, not just the wheel. I grease it every season, but it must be close to 20 years old now.

Like Pete said fix it the right way replace the whole thing it owes you nothing further that includes the frustration of keeping it clean.

If he hadn't ordered a new one, he would have been kickin' himself in the a** during the winter when the stove was getting clogged and no heat output. When it comes to heating equipment (especially up in the NE), I never screwed around being cheap.

If using winblows device you can cheat. Use snip tool, highlight the pic, copy and paste into your message.

That sounds like a great workaround, and easy-peasy

imacman is right, it may be a lot of work, but you want to be sure it's working for, and thru, the heating season - especially this year with the cost of every other HHF being sky high. And to find out in the middle of the heating season that it isn't working for you, that is when every other person with an old stove is trying to order pars, so they may not be available, or with a really long lead time.

You made the right decision BHags

On our 3rd thunderstorm so far this morning. Looking forward to the next couple fall like days. Gonna make a big pot of this soup after watching My Greek Table on PBS the other day. Template for a Classic Greek Bean Soup Gonna add some smoked sausage and kale to it.

My new system come today. It took me almost three hours to get the old parts out and the new in. I am too old to be curled up behind the stove, and my hands are too big to cram into those tight corners! I'll check my work in the morning and grease things up, and put the rest back together, and give it a run. It wasn't fun, but I figured that going in. Now its time for supper, Advil, and a couple beers. Thanks for the advice everyone.

Friday may be a good day for a test fire on that bad boy-gonna be chilly for the less than hearty folk

Me, I'll still be in short sleeves and no jacket for quite some time to come. Gets the body and blood ready for winter temps. Ive seen people already bundled up....... and they wonder why they feel cold later in the season :picard:

I broke down and turned up the t-stat for I was old and cold. My friend went to school today and I suspect was warm and cozy unlike this bear.

I don't care about you guys. Okay, I care about you guys but I don't care about any of your technical issues. If you don't have programs that can take a snapshot or snip, then that is not my problem and I'm not going to solve it for you (because once again, I don't care). If you do have the technology that works with your OS, then you are just too lazy to think about how to modify the workaround to your situation.

That probably sounds harsh - I truly don't mean it to be :)
