That's what I was thinking! And I kinda like it. Hopefully he can keep whacking at it and you can provide more pics as the masterpiece develops...

I thought I was looking at a sculpture at first. He should try his hand at chainsaw wood carving…

The more I look at it the more I wonder … just what was he attempting to do?

Before I asked if he wanted help, he had taken a pic and sent it to someone and then he was talking to this person on his phone, explaining what he was doing. I wish I could have recorded it. This nephew is a fully grown man, about 40. The lady is about 80. I mentioned a similar episode two years ago in the backyard with another tree. It was crazy as well but not nearly as organized as this. My point in bringing this up is to mention that this fellow isn't normal. I first thought he might be on something, like speed or meth. He had an over-the-top personality regarding his confidence in whatever it was he was doing and moved real fast and seemed super hyper. At one point, I was standing close to his uncle and we were watching the fiasco and even the uncle after I had first tried to help and he said "These young people... you can't tell 'em anything." He knew I was right and this guy had no clue what he was doing. As I said, I also 'rescued' him from that tree.

The nephew called me the other day, thinking I was a tree service. We had shared phone numbers. Later, when I said I recommended that they hire a tree service to haul off the rest of the tree in this thread, he wanted me to text him the contact info of a tree service. I did that. He had lost his first phone that I had in my contact list but I had failed to put his new burner phone number in my phone. A few days later, I got a call from a number I didn't recognize. I talked to the person thinking that it was a woman. He wasn't making it clear at all what he was wanting and I kept asking questions to try to figure out what this person was wanting. He kept saying something about a tree 42 feet long. I was thinking "Hmmm... that's a coincidence that this (yard art) tree is 42 inches in diameter. I had told him and his aunt exactly that, that it is a real big tree, 42 inches diameter. I finally mentioned his name, that I had done some work on (this) tree with (him). He said, "I am him!" I was floored. I thought it was a woman, he has a high voice. I finally put it all together and told him he had called ME, not a tree service company. He then told me I gave him my number with the tree service text. I said, nope, look again. He did and saw that he didn't call the tree service, he called the number the text came from. Duh. I dunno what makes him tick, he might just be this way from birth but he also may have fried his brain. He's a functioning adult, has a nice car, good job, is nice enough, just over-the-top with confidence about himself. But... he did listen to me.

I swear, going at his rate, he would be there for weeks. There is a LOT of wood there one brick at a time. And this is oak, it's dense and hard cutting. Heck, it'll take awhile just to remove that stump. Maybe he will leave some cool yard art of his cutting.

I'll say this about this story... a man's got to know his limitations.

I know mine. I'm not good at felling... I can do a marginally passable job in a pinch, but I know when I shouldn't try. And, I don't have a saw that would've been big enough for this job. That said, I still wouldn't have attempted it in the way that was attempted. Wow!

    I thought of carving too.
Might have been a good tree to find someone that carves and could come to do it on site.

There is a painting company I pass on my way to work and they had someone come and carve a tree that they took down.
It is a paint can that is laying at an angle with paint pouring out and a brush next to it.
I thought it was kind of cool.
If I can remember I will take a picture next time by.
