Sure is nice to be able to not pay attention to those types of reports!! And what is this taking it easy for a bit you speak of? :fart:

I'm glad I can ignore them concerning my own house, but for family members that have to buy hundreds of gallons every winter, I try to stay somewhat in the loop. As far as taking it easy goes, in my weaker moments I tend to rest on my laurels but eventually the obsession wins out once again ;)

Lots of firewood deliveries went by here this weekend. I have lived here 30 years and don't think I have ever seen this much delivery activity. Mostly green and I'm sure a large part of it will be attempted to be burned this season. I think about my 2.5 year old hard maple that will be the majority of what I burn when it gets cold and get a content feeling.

A good friend of mine is looking to get back into burning wood this year. Originally he got out of it because fuel oil prices went way down and he could cover the costs with a couple weekends of overtime. He's got a hungry old boiler in his basement that he wants to hook back up. His plan is to have fresh log lengths delivered to his house for the low price of $100/cord, then cut, split, stack and burn it all this winter :picard: I entertained trading him some dry wood for logs, but he'd need 8-9 cords to cover his needs and I'm not too keen on giving away that much :hair: His lack of planning is not my issue.

I'm completely empathetic. I help my parents by hoarding wood for them.

Jones ACt exemptions have happened in the past but I'm pretty sure they've all been post-hurricane "emergencies" declared by Dept of Defense or Homeland Security.
Course, in these times of an Administration declaring the sky is green and the media promotes the lie without question, anything is possible.

Being 72 going on 73, I'm old. Wonder if anyone want to hoard wood pellets for me?

Well, it will affect most everyone in at least NH since most of our electricity is produced from LG - so it isn't just home heating fuel that is an issue. Then add to that the Indiana refinery shutting down a few weeks ago, for an undetermined amount of time, and the electric prices will rise even more (and perhaps have a strained system).

Unless you have a straight wood stove, all systems use electricity to some degree. So even though I have pellet stoves, and only use a small amount of electricity to run them, it still concerns me - especially after the 100% price hike (for the energy charge portion) a month ago.

Jones Act waiver for Canadian imports? Jones Act states that any cargo shipped from a US port to another US port must be on a US flagged vessel. If either the load port or unload port isn't US it doesn't apply.

Jones act waiver for US sourced products.. last year when Europe gas prices went through the roof, all of the US flagged tankers chased the price across the Atlantic leaving no one to bring LNG to New England from the US gulf coast.

LNG Tankers Anchored Off Boston To Capitalize On Impending Energy Crisis | ZeroHedge

New England is an Energy Crisis Waiting to Happen

the arbitrage opportunity highlighted in the first article never came to fruition as NEISO simply turned to burning millions of gallons of #2 distillate (wonder where our diesel shortage in the spring came from?) to generate and the two foreign flagged tankers eventually pulled into Boston to offload their cargo at market rates..

I posted this or a similar picture last winter. Note that 25% of electricity in New England was being generated by Oil. This snapshot represents one million gallons of #2 oil being burned every 3 hours simply to generate electricity. If this happens this winter, say good bye to readily available diesel and home heating oil.

Big problem too is people do not do much planning ahead. I cringe when I think about thousands of people who have or will decide to burn wood and don't know anything except cut it and light it on fire. After all, think about summer campfires. piece of cake. Or like someone I know who asked me a couple questions then 2 days later told me he spent hours on the internet and told me he was all set now. Acted like he knew it all...

Too many people don't plan ahead for anything.

I don't know what that graphic is a graphic of nor what the narrative of its source is, of but "New England's" percentage of both coal and oil together is less than 1% and has been for quite some time. 25% for oil is absurd.

Pilgrim (nuclear) closed in 2018/2019 sometime. So even this data is a bit aged.

All my relatives who said "why bother burning wood" are now eating those words.

I distinctly remember my aforementioned good friend saying "I'm all set" when he disconnected his boiler, sold his splitter and 2 of his chain saws. He burned burned wood for over 10 years too.
