Excited to try out my new Alaskan 24" mill. Been looking for a way to use the 395xp more !
Wish I would have read more. I knew I'd lose 4"...but didn't realize I'd lose 2" more due to having a roller sprocket nose on my 24" bar. So 18 " is what I'm left with. I've got a whole woods of choices so I'll be ok...but can see up grading to a bigger size eventually...if im any good at this lol.

Nice. With that size you'll probably have to get a bit aggressive with your rakers/depth gauges for it to eat like it can. I'd run an 8 pin too. Share pics when you do finally use it.

    Let the fun begin.

Rough on both the equipment and operator but well worth the time and effort.

    Keep us posted.

It is a lot of work but very satisfying to have a pile of 3" slabs laying there drying. Have fun!

I hear ya. Priorities! Time will come for it and be sure to post pics. Ive never CS milled or seen it done. Only on buzzsaw's mill. Had a chance to mill some black walnut last January, but it was cold and didnt think of it until after the fact. Did save one smaller log for it. Have to slice it up yet.

I have been looking at alaskan mills for my 28" bar, but didn't know I'd lose that much bar length. I'd have to run a 40" bar just to make up for the mill.

I saw a guy using one and he blocked the log up on a angle.
The starting end was as high as he could safely cut and the other end was at ground level.
Claimed the vibration and gravity helps with feeding the saw.
He sure had a pile of slabs.

Definitely get one end up if you can. Lot less effort and just let gravity help progress.

another trick is to set up a winch. and pull the mill through that way, saves the back
