2 loads @ 3/4 yard of red stone down. Next up is cutting 10 RR ties in half to make a civil war type fence.

 

I had to spend some time with my youngest to help her harvest.

 

So I volunteered to replace a toilet seat at mom's house. Nothing wrong with the one she had, just two itty bitty tiny spots where the paint has worn off at an edge . I never would have noticed it if it hadn't been shown to me. Easy peasy, right ?

Toilet seats used to have two very simple nuts and bolts holding the seat down. The toilet design used to make this a simple 5 minute project. This Kohler toilet barely has access to the hardware -- I almost had to remove the toilet because I had to do it all by feel. Stupid nuts with no flats and bolts 4 inches longer than they needed to be. WHO in their right mind makes nuts with no flats. Thankfully the bits were all plastic. The new nuts are unbelievably even worse. Two piece nuts.
Instead of making shorter bolts, make a nut that's three inches long that has to fit in the other half of it just so. I should have taken a picture. Unbelievably complex with absolutely no gain of function nor ease of assembly.
If I was a plumber I would certainly charge $125 an hour/service call to deal with this crap.

damm that's a big tree. Do they spray the apples often ?

 

It’s too big. And I don’t spray them. So the bugs get too many of them. Good deer feed though. I’ve never sprayed. But I should. How do I go about it? And it is time to cut the tree down in size.

 

I've seen the guy with the orchard down the street do some heavy pruning but not a tree that size. I would be tempted to cut it down for firewood and start over with something on rootstock that would help keep the tree size manageable.
I have a few trees but I keep them down to a size I can spray with a backpack sprayer. Plus I can pick them without a lift or climbing ladders.

I have one of those, but I didn't want to risk scratching up the porcelain. I have a dremel, a sawzall and one of those vibratey tools, too.
It's supposed to be EASY !!!

 

We love those fences. Wish we could replicate exactly. It would get very spendy these days. Got this far little bit less than 600. Wife wants to go higher.

With 2 rows laid, I drilled 1/2” holes and pounded 4’ rebar at each corner and ends, then screwed the rest with 10” screws. It shouldn’t move anytime soon.

 

I have lived in area where the bear would and did come into the yard. They would tear open any garbage can. They got the lids off what you did to secure them. You had to keep your doors secured because if they detected food from inside a home, they would try to come in.

Not what I envisioned at first as I thought the fence would go further towards the grass with most of the rock being there for roadside parking and the fence being along the grassline to keep people from pulling onto the lawn. There may be enough room for that as it is (my depth perception is not good), with the added bonus of not having to weed wack around the fence (and I hate weed wacking, only do it twice a year and grumble about every minute of it).

 

I really wanted it to be angled more toward the grass and I laid out the first row like that but we would have been way short on ties. They were $30ea! My wife ran to Lowes for the rebar and the screws and I just found the receipt. 11 pieces of 1/2" round 4' long rebar($6.48ea) and 2 boxes of screws... $117. $20 for 12 10" screws. Those darn red rock were $110 a yard! So it was a budget decision. And we are definitely going to go higher.
