How much do you usually stuff in your basement? I'd like to stash a bit down there, even if we didnt use it for a year or two. But id have to skin it all to minimize bug issues. Sca
I think Cash Larue was feeling it a couple weeks ago. We're as ready and anticipating it as we can be. But, there is still more hoarding to be done, one job left that if it occurs before winter, I aim to finish. Not shutting it down yet.
The old Hamm's Brewery was closed years ago, and they were bought by Molson. We can still buy Hamm's regular at any liquor store, but I didn't realize Hamm's Lite had been discontinued. It was popular around here too, especially in the summer. Can you get Genesee Cream Ale in your area? I always thought it was similar to Hamm's.
Ready for cooler weather. Our archery season opens up in a few weeks on the 24th. Definitely ready to log time in a stand.
Oh yeah. I’ve already had to defrost my windshield before a work a few times. Supposed to be a high of 48 and chance of snow at my place on Saturday.
Yes and yes! It’s only my second year burning, last year was a shambles, burning wet wood with snow on it because that was all I had. A heat load calculation for our building is indicating I will burn 25 full cord (not face cord) so I am incredibly eager to see if I can burn less than that with some recent insulation improvements. I’m am also eager to see when I need to start the OWB up for the first time here in SW Ontario. Deer hunting season the first week of Nov that I am very excited about! I hope people don’t need to start their fires until January and that your firewood hoards multiply while you’re not attending to them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
5 ish cord. No bug issues. No shlepping about in the ice and snow. Load the stove in my slippers. Not much left at the end of the season.
We've had some fires already when it was cold and damp, we have long cold winters up here so I don't mind waiting longer for the colder weather to arrive.
And that there is the very basis for the "Wood Hoarders Blessing". I do hope you burn less than you think you will Son of a Woodcutter. Last season (21/22) was our first full season of heating with wood too. Due to leaky tarps, we ran short and had to burn what was driest here. Our chimney didn't reflect any issues, but I was not a happy camper for the last few heating weeks. I am hoping (planning) to do some more insulation here momentarily as well. This year we have wood closing on 2 years old, so we're getting there! Sca
Yes, regular Hamm's is sold here, no lite. I don't think you can get Genny Cream Ale anymore....I drank more than I care to admit of it back in the 1970's.
Moving wood up but the wife still has windows open so it will be a while yet.. She is cold blooded but has a good heart
Our stove is on the living floor. I was thinking that I'd want wood in the basement just as a way to have a backup cord or two. Not for every day use, but if things got interesting, weather or otherwise.... Sca
It’s dark at 6am and setting sun at 5:30. I see it and the ac is not running, but I still got things to do. For now I’ll be content with splitting, stacking and having a dry shirt afterward. Might even feel like jumping on the tractor to bush hog.
I say put a wood stove in the stand or sit by a fire and wait for a deer. They get curious when there is smoke. My dad used to take me hunting and he would sit by a log and smoke a cigarette. Within minutes a deer would come by to see what was up. He always filled his tags, usually the first day. We were building the deck last fall and the deer were walking right up to us and watching us work. They didn't mind the hammering, miter saw, or any of the digging we were doing. They stood there, maybe 25-30 feet away and just watched.
Just last night, Sweet Melissa got up suddenly and opened the cold stove and pretended to stoke it around and add a few splits. She glanced back at me with that silly little grin and we both knew its getting close. Fired up on October 11 last year here in MN
