With the temps changing, though slowly, I have that excited anticipation of the upcoming burn season and all the joy and satisfaction it brings. Of course this time of year starts the hunting season as well for me. Nothing like coming in from the stand to the warmth of a wood fire to warm your chilled bones. What say you?
Not a night has passed in the past month where I haven't said to my wife "Almost time to start loading up the stove." Of course she rolls her eyes, then I look to my dogs, who will sit in front of the wood stove until their fur is almost too hot to touch. I know they're waiting too.
Agreed on both wood burning and hunting seasons. Some of the trees are starting to turn color, although probably from dry conditions, still a good sign!
Definitely looking forward to it here. We're quickly turning a corner, as evidenced by the noticeable loss of daylight and lows dipping well into the 50s. Every year I appreciate autumn more and more, but then again the same could be said for all the seasons. Each year seems to go by faster than the last, unfortunately.
Definitely looking forward to the fall weather and colder season in general. I hate the extreme heat. I've got more honey hole oak to hoard and I don't want to sweat my arse off to get it.
I've felt it. 48F the other morning, or about 9C. Getting dark earlier too. I love September and especially October. Best time of year imo. Perfect weather to work outdoors and get stuff done. The leaves changing, holidays coming, brisk air and temps, sweatshirt weather, pumpkin ale season. What's not to love.
There’s a monastery near me that made an excellent pumpkin ale. Unfortunately they closed the brewery recently.
Looking forward to burning season. It should be the best season yet. Started moving wood up to the house a couple of days ago. A little early but I am having an operation in Oct. One 1/2 cord stack mm at 17.8%. Another stack at 18%. The third stack that I thought might come in at 20-21% came in at mid 19%. Overall, the best wood I have started a season with.
Wood moved up a couple weeks ago, first pine log fire monday (60's and rainy all day), and a fire early in the mornings last 2 days just to take the chill off. I dont hunt, but I work outside. A wood stove to warm up by, dry off by after a shower, and warm boots by, is priceless. Fall is my favorite season too. I try to get all the various winter preps done so once snow flies I can relax a little. Ultimately I hope to see us get snowed in for a week or more, cant go anywhere, just hang out, read, stoke the fire...
I see in your profile pic the Hamm's beer. A lot of us here in PA like Hamm's Light, but can't seem to find it anymore. They quit brewing do you know?
