The day after Labor Day, 2022. 65°f, cloudy rainy. Pine load in the Jotul, took the chill off, warmed things up....the heat will last the night. It got up to 90 on the first floor pretty quick, so I opened doors to far flung rooms and second floor when I woke up. Probably will let it go out.
I’m jealous. Same weather here, but I came home today to find my wife wearing a hooded sweatshirt and the AC blasting…. I lovingly asked her if this was necessary, to which she became visibly irritated. Guess I’ll just work more overtime But I digress. Looks good, enjoy

You're right! Soon as the rack is clear of shoulder season wood, it will be filled with cord number 6 of this year's wood. Still have heard nothing of the ash score. Sca
We have had a couple SS fires this week: Spruce, Hemlock, White Pine, Tulip, and the odd oak scraps. a couple evenings back, I burned off a stove full of Ash and other bark. That was one hot fire! Stove got right to 500F. I'm not sure I want to stock that, meaning one more rack to build....
and another yard to find? Why i dont stock it. Try lower btu hardwoods if you come across them like the tulip. Most dry fast too.
That's about it, another yard to store stuff. But I don't think I'd need a huge space, not like I'll have a couple cord of bark. when we moved this season's wood up her a few weeks back, much of the bark came off. So I kinda have it anyway. I have a friend with a EWP on the ground, but they want to mill it, so I only got a few pieces of SS wood this year, for spring. One good load of Tulip and some Hemlock this morning did us well here for today's morning chill.
Nah, not cold yet. Just refusing to use the gas furnace so far. Ive burned a handful of soft wood splits, and some bark, and the place is comfy. I lit a fire tonight, that will leave us a nice lump of heat.for morning.
Foggy, raw, and damp morning. Outside temps mid-50's. I opened a few windows, brought in a few small chunks of ash, and fired it up. A good morning to burn off any dust that settled. I also sprayed the top with a high heat paint. Good to get any odors off and out of the house.
Nice. Good day for a first fire. We didn't do any work to the stove this year, so no odors of any sort on the first burn. I did open the stove door a few times, to waft a little smoke into the house. . . Looking at the weather, we might have a fire later in the week, Wed looks cool-ish and cloudy. I take it it all burned well, everything functional?
Wow, quite a bit warmer down this way. Had the windows open all night with a fan blowing cooler air in, in one of them. I recall it was 65ºF this morning at the kitchen window. It's still 65ºF, although the sun just came out so it should go up a little.
