I've been feeling inspired as well. We had some hideous heat this summer and I've wanted nothing to do with my OPE. However, the temps are dropping into the 40's and 50's now in MA overnight and I've been eyeballing my next projects. I've got a rather large dying oak in my front yard. (Buried the flare when building and knew it was probably a death wish...) Plus a monster birch that gave it up during the drought this summer. Then there is a beech that lost a battle with Beech bark disease this summer. That's my start but the power company also had a tree service do some preventive maintenance on the street this week. They chipped the branches but left two cherry and a red maple on the side of the road. Once things cool down further, I'll likely go grab them too. They are both low BTU stuff but I can't live with myself if I drive by each day watching them rot for the next decade....

**Cheering you on in getting to it.

The seasonal change brings that out doesnt it?
It is harvest time here.....thinking about corralling provisions for colder temperatured times. All around I'm tidying, stacking, securing. Nothing new, or more or less than any other year.
Not only do I want enough in reserve, but it accessible even when things get exciting, weather-wise and other-wise.

System, this all going toward this or next year (s)?
How much do you typically go through in a winter?

I do about 7 cords a winter and am on a 2-3 year plan. Current years is already in the basement since spring. Next winter's is in the wood shed and I'm about half way to having year three in the stacks between the trees behind the wood shed....

(I found some BL pieces at the worcester transfer station, going west beyond the scale. There is a piece on top of their connex box, and few behind it to be sure.
Fair game, but im going to see if I can get it at some point. I see it laying there day after day.....

I start burning 10/15 and go straight to 4/15, and in a cold winter can burn almost through the whole lean to, which is 17 cords. Heating 5000 sf with radiant plus domestic hot water, and burning whatever wood I get for free, lean to pic above

I just need to make sure I don't have any ring rust... It's been a few months since I pulled a starter!
