On a little firewood vacay. 80 deg and low humidity in August has me using some pto.
First time processing big sugar maples. The first one was wavy, trash making and labor intensive. It had me swearing at and off big sugar maple. This one has been straighter and making nice splits.

I don't even bother trying to split big crotch pieces anymore. They get noodled down to size. All the oak I've been getting spoils me on the hydro's. It all just pops open into mostly stringless splits. :dex:

Yeah I’m not really a fan of processing big sugar maple because of the knots and curves.

I am in the camp that believes crotch pieces put out more heat.
Think about it…same for us right?

Some of these oak planks are growing fungi, so I’ll turn them into firewood tomorrow. I’m not a builder and don’t have space to store lumber. My friend Jeff has an LT40 and logs galore if I ever become bob.

If they don’t have mind blowing heat I’ll never get another big Sugar Maple log.

I hope your baby is happy and healthy. I’ve got one youngin left at home, so I don’t always get full days in the wood, but it’s more than when there was 3. Few more years and I’ll be able to camp out at the piles.

Why not carve it up into chunks (more trigger time) and give/sell it to the OWB guys?
