My aunt is house sitting for one of her best friends, and we were invited to come down to use it as home base for some day trips over to Nags Head. The husband evidently was a bit of a collector of cool history and archeology type stuff.... That brown "rock" I'm told is a meteorite. You can judge the size from the old tennis ball there. Lift with your legs, that bugger probably weighs 80+ pounds...

Interesting post Eckie ...supposedly there was a wooly mammoth skeleton unearthed years ago when someone was digging a drainage ditch in a field a couple miles from here...its in a lowland area that has "black muck" soil...very fertile, and until recently was used as a sod farm.
Yes, and I only took pics of a few things. There were all kinds of projectile points (arrowheads, spearheads, axes etc etc)... All kinds of things. An archeologist/ paleontologist etc would have lost their mind...
No I don't. The guy died a few years ago. His wife was on a trip so couldn't get any details from her. My Aunt said they had two tusks at one time, sold a smaller one for a good chunk of money. Aunt said the guy travelled all over finding/collecting stuff, and that she was sure all the things were legit. He had all kinds of indian artifacts, many that were definitely from a western type of stone that we don't have round here/in NC. I would have loved if the lady had been there so I could ask of I could really look at the stuff.
