I’ve had this tractor since the early 2000’s. Used it to mow until 2005ish when I bought a 48” walk behind. Since then, it’s used for fall leaf cleanup. The last two years, it’s basically sat. We picked up a snowmobile and enclosed trailer package last winter and figured the tractor would be good for tugging the trailer around. Time to get to work! Fresh out of the shed. Actually started pretty easily with a boost pack and a little cheater spray (starting fluid) and settled into a nice idle. The magic mix of sea foam, sta-bil and marvel mystery oil did the trick before it sat for all that time. Post pressure wash. Cleaned up nicely. Clutch/brake cable mount snapped. New one is on order. Rubber on the drive disc is a little beat up, but no slipping. Next up: Oil change, new plugs, air filter, files lines and a filter. And a new seat. This thing sounds pretty sweet. That's a nice mower! It looks great! I just bought an old LT 12 for 300 bucks a couple months ago and it still works great. I like the way they sound too.
Made some progress as of late. New parts to be installed: Air filter, clips for the headlight bezel and the clutch/brake cable. Pulled the hood off to get those clips installed. They fit really tightly, so it took a bit of effort. A nice view of the engine with the hood off. The cable was a bit challenging to install. At first, I worked my way back to front, but didn’t have enough slack to get the loop around the pedal. Working front to back was the way to go. I used a piece of scrap wood to hold things in place while routing the cable and adjusting it. While I had everything apart, I hit all the zerks with grease and replaced the battery. For the first time in years, both lights are in their proper place! That cable that broke was OEM and I never messed with it. With the new cable, much less travel on the pedal to engage the clutch and brake. So in that regard, it drives better. I picked up two new plugs and fuel line. Oil will be here next week. Ironically a quart and a half of 30wt was cheaper on Amazon vs one quart from the local big box auto parts store.
Most of the work is done! Installed new plugs, fuel line and filter and new hardware for the battery cables. Old parts: Fuel line work Last part of this project will be the hitch. I need to have the ball a bit higher to more easily hook up to the new to us snowmobile trailer. Just need some hardware to mount it to the tractor.
