Should of had some eye protection today. Took a mean saw chip to the eye at work. Think I scratched it and it's getting sensitive to light. Don't learn things the hard way.

How old are you, Jr? What kind of experience do you have running chainsaws? Those questions will be a good start to help us figure out exactly what you can start out with. Are you planning on cutting lots of firewood, or just "now and then" cutting?

I remove literally hundreds of trees over the course of a year.....so powerful, reliable saws with full chisel chains are a must. Most of my saws fall in the 70 - 111cc range. But I have several smaller saws for limbing/climbing, etc. What are you planning on doing with your saw?

I'd say the 170 is a great saw to learn on.....Once you get good with that, maybe move up to a ported 290......lightweight and fair on power.

After a while you'll be thirsty for something bigger. Main thing is, wear your PPE. Glasses and chaps are a must, they are a good habit to get into. I didn't wear chaps (been cutting for over 12 yeqrs heavily) and a couple months ago I buried the bar of my 064 into my left shin......it wasn't pretty. My point being even a highly experienced person can have a mishap. So be careful out there bud!
