I think they’re awesome saws and fairly light for a 79cc saw. Tree service I fix saws for just bought a 3rd one, got them one from Greece 2 years ago they bought another this spring and after I modded the muffler I told him to keep in his truck because he never got any chance to run the first one. He liked it so much he bought another last week. So now he’s 462’s and 500’s for ground work, have a feeling I’ll be going over 7-8 362’s to get read to sell now because nobody uses them anymore.

    Ported 346’s and 550’s are close to a 372 or 572 in 16” wood

I happened to have a stock 572 on the bench today, so I made a couple videos to satisfy my own curiosity and make certain I wasn’t making false claims. The red 2149/53 is the same as a Husky 346. Same chain

I have a ported MS441C-M and it definitely does not suck. Unless you need to work on it. Admittedly, it's a little more complicated to assemble than a 562/572. Those newer Huskies are fantastic to work on. 441's, much like the Mk1 562's, had early teething pains that were well sorted before the model was retired.

How do the bottom ends compare? This reminds me of the old Stihl 460 vs 660 debate. Yeah, a stock 660 is S-L-O-W, but the 1122 bottom ends are built to a whole 'nother level vs 1128. Built for durability as a priority over speed. Bigger main bearings, bigger clutches, etc. For a log pile cutter, especially for production firewood, he's going to be making cut after cut, in short succession.

I say get a saw that will make you happy for performance AND durability in stock form, then absolutely get it hopped up. Just makes the grin even wider.

I haven’t paid much attention to the crank or bearings on a 572, but it’s been read that it’s beefier than the 372. Quality oil and more of it will double or triple the service life of the bottom end in the 5 series. Surely the 572 has a much larger crank and bearings than the 346. But the piston weighs probably 70-80% more as well

Care to comment on the cost of a new ported (good) 50cc vs a new (good) 70cc?

The 441 was the biggest pain I’ve ever worked on and while it doesn’t suck after port work I can think of many other stihls I’d rather have. I have a nearly new 441 that hooked a ring and destroyed the cylinder. Some day I’ll find a decent used top end and rebuild it for my collection but not in any huge hurry. The early ones were good for the intake cracking and wiping the saw out. But yes the first run kinda ruined the whole production of the 441. The one I have is a 441cm and I’d be willing to bet it doesn’t have 10 hours on it. Stump grinding company bought it new and it died about 4 months after buying it.

I did not get along with the 441 for a few reasons. I always struggled with starting it and it takes forever to get it warmed up to cut. Meaning if I got to fire without flooding and gave it too much trigger too soon it died and had to do it all over again. The oiler was too stingy and wrecked bars. This eventually improved, but it still wore out bars faster than older saws. We still have a running all original early 441 at work. Other guys will use it, but not me. I was used to the ease of starting an 044 and the 441 was too finicky. I took the saw to two different Stihl dealers 3x trying to get the oiling sorted out when it was new.
The av springs took some getting used to also. Too much change in one saw.

I'll say again that a good ported 50cc saw will hang with 60 and even 70cc saws. My ported 350 will hang right with my ported ms390(65cc) in wood 20" and under, and my ms390 is no slouch. The 350 just pulls that hard, maybe because the ports are full of jb weld? :dremel:

I was pushing a little and the rakers are lowered a bit.

X2, although 12-15 saws sounds better! :saw:

I think you will like falling with the 562 and a shorter bar better than the 572, but the 572 will definitely be better in the wood pile with a longer bar. You can never have too many saws, so if you budget will allow 2 562’s get one ported and use than in the pile and short bar one for felling.
