Those totes are great labor savers for you. Bring it right next to the splitter and use the forks to move to storage when full.

 

That's exactly what I do. And I generally stack rounds in racks that I can move as well. Everything is portable so I can split anywhere.

 

I had just gotten home last night when my neighbor texted me. He was ready to tackle a tree. A big maple split during a storm Saturday. It was still attached and hanging down at a pretty severe angle. His son-in-law ran a small Kubota tractor with a loader and lifted up on the end of the branch while I started cutting. I had him let it down to reposition and it broke loose. I continued cutting until we were within about 12' from where it was resting in a crotch. I tried pulling it out with the truck but it wasn't coming out. So I cut it back as far as I could without falling into the creek. It tipped up after my last cut so we decided it could just stay where it was. I brought the spoils home.

Last night I went back to the same neighbor's place. He had another log pulled out in the yard. It was a standing dead ash tree. I bucked and loaded it along with a few assorted limbs (just what's on the tailgate). That includes a 6' mulberry limb to add to my collection.

A little note about my roadside stand. I got a message Tuesday inquiring about the quantities and prices of what I have. I was in the middle of a virtual interview. I sent a quick message and told him I'd get back with him as soon as I could. He sent pics of some of my full IBC totes. I explained that they weren't seasoned yet. He ended taking 15 mini bundles, a $20 stack, a $40 stack and 2 bags of kindling. He said he'd be back before Labor Day. I told him I could sell a full tote and put it out for him at that time. I love it when customers show up, do all the loading and leave me cash.

Great sale. Were you dropping the tote or was he picking it up little by little?

I sold a 1/4 cord last night from FBM listing. Husband wanted to PU but as wood is not on my property i said no. She couldnt fathom what a 1/4 cord (she thought the half cord pictured was all the wood she was getting) was and after several messages explaining the size of the stack she said okay. Less than two miles from storage too. Old inventory of two year old wood im glad to be rid of as its in the way.


Im going to change the photo in my listing of a 4'x6' stack to show size.

 

We'll have to see if he decides to come back for a tote. With all he picked up, I'm guessing he must have a bog enough truck to handle what's in a tote (2 stacks equaling 1/4 cord).

I have specific photos of each amount I sell and they are all separate listings. I see lots of people advertising truckloads. Who knows how much wood that is??

 

When I went home for lunch I saw that a tree service had left a gift for me. I probably won't get to it for a couple weeks as I have some other priorities. No huge stumps and nasty crotches for a change.

I needed to make another trip to the tree service cleanup job I started last Saturday. I still had maple from Monday night in the truck so I got it split up early this morning. Most of what was left was pretty large, including some 36"+ rounds so I had to noodle almost everything. Unfortunately it burned a lot of fuel and I ran out. Not good planning. But still a decent load.

The tote sold today. We came home from a small community festival tonight and found a truck in the driveway. I pulled off and helped them load. I asked how they found me and told me me they saw my Marketplace ad. The drove 30 miles from a neighboring county. It's for their fireplace for this winter. Good to see people planning ahead!

Nice surprise to come home to.

I dropped my 1/4 cord at noon. Guy thought it would be more after i tried numerous times to explain to his wife on FB how much it was. I was liberal and gave him 200 splits and a complimentary bundle of kindling. Turns out they heat with wood and he had little on hand. I offered another 1/4 for $75 but no taker. he hoards and makes his own but didnt have any yet. Decent set up with 2x4 single tier racks. I offered green plain rounds for a discount but again no taker. Have a half cord lined up for late next week.

 

I got another surprise when I went home for lunch. I had a visitor at my roadside stand and just about got cleaned out. I refilled a $20 rack before I went back to work. The rest will have to wait for tonight.

While I was loading splits in the Gator to refill the roadside stand, a tree service buddy stopped by with a small load. I'll get it bucked this weekend. The second picture was dropped off late last week. I do love maple for selling. It splits easy and dries fast.

It varies a lot. Some days nothing sells. Other days I'm out multiple times. I check daily and refill several times a week.

 

Had a good weekend at the roadside stand. It started fairly slow. Friday was busy and people were coming and going all day Saturday. I only helped 1 customer load. So much easier than delivering! Saturday's sales totaled $187. I had $267 for the week. It's usually busy the week before a holiday weekend. I'm expecting a pretty big week this week.

I have everything stocked up at the stand. I'll be making more mini bundles, kindling bags and kindling mega bundles this week since I don't have any spares in inventory. I have an IBC tote of mixed hardwood and little extra staged to refill the loose stacks as needed. I'll probably bring another tote up from the processing center to be on standby.

I've been happy with the IBC solar kilns. I'm running 2 at a time. I'll leave the wood wrapped in plastic for about 3 weeks. It is usually split and stacked 4-8 weeks before wrapping. So far I've consistently been running at or a little less than 20% MC when I open them up. It's mixed hardwoods (no oak or locust). I want to get the current totes uncovered and then wrap the next 2 in line. I need to take advantage of the warm weather while it lasts!
