A neighbor and close friend owns a tree service and was doing a job in the neighborhood. Asked me if I wanted the logs from a cherry tree they took down. I responded "Sure, thanks! You know where to dump it."
Ha! Indeed. He's a great guy and when nearby routinely will text me to see if I am interested. He knows right where to dump the logs; this arrangement has been going on for years.
Anybody in this group that would turn down a nice load of cherry should have his/her FHC membership card revoked.
LOL there's a few big names on here that aren't impressed with cherry at all I happen to like the stuff a lot though, and if I had to stick to just 3 species to hoard, cherry would be on my list.
I'm with you. It's generally easy to split, dries fairly quickly and you can't beat the smell. I'll be happy to take all the cherry the other guys don't want.
Ooh very tough call. You guessed right on the sugar maple. I think if I absolutely had to pick a third species, white oak would be it. As much as I like BL, I think oak splits straighter, therefore stacks better.
I'm with ya. I will never turn down cherry. Smells great when splitting and burning, colorful flames when burning and fairly easy to split. Always nice to mix it with other firewood. Also, I save a few pieces to dry and chunk up for the smoker.
