A co worker asked if i wanted some wood from storm damaged elm trees he had taken down. Of coarse i said yes. I brought the 440 with a 24” bar and it was way to small. This stuff is big. I have another 10-12 loads there. Luckily he has a sub compact tractor with a bucket but it only lifts 350 lbs so i have to cut everything down to fit in his bucket. lots of work in my future.
Nice score for sure! Ever try a log tongs on a chain? Decent way to load a trailer and not real pricey. Cut everything 32", stack two rows in the trailer side to side and then it's just one cut on each round when processing. They roll out nice that way too.
Man thats a buncha wood! How many cord do you figure that is? You planning a trip or two a day? Nice score!
I figure about 9-10 cord. Its going to be slow getting this home. He lives close to work so im taking the trailer to work and getting a load home a day.
I've done that very same thing. Took two weeks to get 3ish cord (all css) in and stacked. One saturday a friend and I made 3 trips, I didn't want the guy to up and move sooner than planned and me leave wood stuck there. A larger trailer would have helped me. I can move less then half a cord at a time, particularly if its oak. Looking forward to pics of the pile growing at home!
Hey that looks good! That'll be a few hours splitting/cutting. Weather good for that where you are? I've been out early in the AM (sunrise) to split, couple hours a day before work. It's cool enough to cool down for a minute when needed. I have to keep the wood moving out of the pasture so they can do other clearing activities. Pic from this morning....
I’ve never had Elm. Hear it’s the dickens to split. Do you have a big machine? That’s a lot of scrounge going on. Congrats.
