The guide bars on my Iron and Oak sure have seen their better days. Didn’t realize how bad they were worn out until I saw a piece with an angled cut twisting the ram around. Ordered the new ones Saturday for $81 with shipping and installed them after dinner tonight. I have an old next to the new for comparison. Yeah, I’d say they were worn out.
Wow! I had an Iron and Oak and those parts are beefy! Looks like you are getting your moneys worth out of the splittter.
How bad is the Ibeam it rides on? I converted my American CLS to a box wedge. Requires a much wider push plate which imparts much greater side to side pressures. Snapped a bolt in the original pretty fast. Rebuilt the guides to be longer and doubled the bolt count to help alleviate that problem. I noticed it’s still chewing on the ibeam tho. Ouch!! Mixed up a copious amount of WS2 (Tungsten Disulfide) with grease and coated the Ibeam edge. Hoping that works. If not I’ll have to switch to brass or bronze and replace often.
The I beam shows some wear as well but not like the guide bars. I know what you mean about a wider push plate and more stress. I shear off bolts on the guide bar of my tw6 rather often.
