Our 12yo golden retriever passed away a year and a half ago and is greatly missed. She was a wonderful dog.

Today my youngest son picked up a 4 month female old puppy for free, it's mother is a golden retriever and its father a beagle.

"Emma" is currently 22lbs and very cute, but very shy.

Emma might turn into a huntin' dog that brings back what she's been chasing... :D She looks good.

Great minds and all that ...

Our Golden's name was Abby. My three kids came up with the name Emma for this one. They thought we were getting a male puppy and had already decided on Emmett (from the Lego Movie) and settled on Emma when they found out we were getting a girl.

I'm worried about this one though. She's very lethargic, and doesn't roam around like you'd expect a 4 month old pup to do. She was living on a farm with 15 other dogs and has had no shots and is loaded with fleas. Probably has worms too.

The owner had tears in his eyes when my son and wife picked her up. He loves his dogs and can't bear to part with any of them.

Sounds like a little TLC and some adjusting to family life will do wonders for her ;)

Might want to get a stool sample checked out for her Brian. Living on a farm with 15 other dogs most certainly exposed her to lots of bacteria. Intestinal bacterial infection can cause that lethargy, among other things. I am by no means a vet by the way.
    Very cute pup.

Thanks, that's on tomorrow's agenda. She got a double bath today with flea shampoo and the poor thing was just covered with them. She's no longer acting nervous/shy, just tired and content.

I'm betting your new Emma will get energized with love and TLC. She looks adorable. Your vet will get you on a good schedule for her shots, worming, etc. Food is the important thing. After really looking into it, I know not to feed food with grain, (corn, wheat, soy) or animal bi products. Food like Blue is acceptable. No food from China. Anyway, good luck with your new friend. I hope you will share pictures of her growing up and her adventures! :ithappened:

Emma is settling right in, and getting very playful.

She met two of our three cats with no fanfare. She's greeting Ben the Cat in the photo below. But as soon as our third cat finally came down from the second floor last night, we heard Emma bark for the very first time. I have no idea why two cats out of three got zero response but the third cat precipitated a typical "cat vs dog" encounter.

Vet did the stool check, no problems. We're giving her good puppy food from a local shop, Nutro Natural Choice.

Thanks! She found her voice tonight. A neighbor walked by across the road, and she got her hackles up and started barking away, had to bring her inside to get her to stop. Looks like we've got us a watch dog.

Really good food. Bear has been on it since he was 8 weeks old. It will really bring her coat on.

Like the pictures. Nice coloring. Eyes look bright. That is a good diet for her.
Nice to see her interact with the cats. We brought in a new cat three weeks ago. He is doing very well with the dogs. He and the female dog actually play together. We got this cat as a stray from an animal shelter.
