When we first moved into our present house, we had one huge Groundhog/Woodchuck in the backyard. The lady who owned the house before us used to feed it dinner veggie scraps. This thing was so fat it waddled and would flatten grass when it walked. It lived in a hole in the side of the hill in back and it was big enough to fit your head into. Biggest groundhog I’ve seen to this day.

You are spot on. Even in the southern part of the state there has been very little humidity so far. The last two summers were the hottest I remember (been here for over 30 years) and had the humidity to boot (which is normal). There were a lot of mornings I couldn't open up the windows to let the indoors cool down because the outdoors hadn't cooled down. And I was constantly running the AC in dehydrate mode to keep the interior of the house between 60 and 70%

Most of this year I've been able to open the windows in the evening, get it down to 68-70* in here by the time the sun rises, and then I can let it ride with the windows closed until later in the afternoon. Even then, the AC doesn't work real hard and it is really mostly fan work. I think there has only been once so far that the indoor humidity got a little over 60%, but most times it has been 48-55%.

To illustrate - last year's June electric usage was 367 kwh (1st month with mini-split), 2020 electric usage was 461 kwh (window and portable AC) and this year it was 292 kwh. All of that time I have been WFH, so the base usage has stayed the same.

I've been using a rifled daisy BB gun here for a few years. Very effective at about up to 200' after that distance, it's operator error! :binoculars:

There's a lot of that in our house. I've had wife and son tell me it won't hit sh1t, but I pull up and kill starlings (nest robbers) all the time, rabbits and an occasional ground hog. I knew I killed the one hog from the stench. He ran under my stacks to die. :picard:

Don't like those starlings here either, It's amazing how fast they will show up as soon as a robin starts chirping their "alarmed" sound in the hopes of finding a fledgling.

Heading out tomorrow morning with my brother and a couple of our friends on our yearly campout/mountain hike trip.

Usually we head into upper New England to tackle the high points. Have done Mansfield in VT, Katahdin in ME both once and Washington in NH a few times- so this year we're going up to Lake Placid to hike Mount Marcy.
I outfitted the car with a roof rail kit and one of those cargo baskets I bought online from etrailers (I think it was them).
All geared up for a few nights of camping / several miles of hiking and when we're done- a few beers to round out the nights.

Weather stations say it should be down into the 40s the next couple nights. Can't believe it's here already!

Three of us were sitting on the deck yesterday around noon and I was getting ready to cook some venison burgers on the flattop when this guy came sauntering into the yard. Could have cared less that we were up there and just took his time walking around. Scruffy looking thing but no fear of us.
